I'm still on the fence myself. This flat black vinyl... you're talking about a custom sized decal. correct?

    Matt,
I know you just went to town on it, but was there any sort of prep work like sanding it down first? Is this what you used? Was it just plain spray paint?

I used this on my factory skid plate. Looked freakin' awesome at first. As little rocks or what not hit it, the silver is starting to show. I want to make sure if I go that route, that I don't have the same issue on the bumper. I'll probably get the skid plate rhino lined now.
    Thanks PackerFan!

Same Krylon but I used the indoor/outdoor satin black. The only prep I did was sanding the lower grill area because it was real scuffed up due to a grill insert that used to be there. I also slightly sanded (320 grit) some of the little chips on the bumper. Other than that, it applied well and looks good in person.
My skid plate was already black so I'm not worried about chips. ;) If I get chips on my bumper; I'll respray it. :)

people usually bitch and moan about how they can't do it and bla bla bla... if you take your time, you can do it. it IS a pita though. a little less permanent than painting.

The OP's looks good, i would like to see how it holds up over time without touch up.
in no way a stab at the OP, just curious (road gravel, bugs, tar, and so on hitting the painted valence)

That's why I rattle canned it instead of going to a professional I know. I can touch it up any time for next to nothing- in fact, that's about what it cost me to do the mod. ;)

Do you have to worry about the vinyl fading over time?

I mean the paint will chip. It chips on the other parts of the bumper so that's to be expected in due time. We painted my dad's about 2.5 years ago and maybe once a year we hit it with a little touch up. Easy to do and costs next to nothing.

On my dads you could tell that there were spots were it chipped off. But hey he uses it as a work truck and isn't the type to wash it often. So yes it will need to be touched up. But the rest of his bumper has little specks and chips from debris hitting it and touching up those areas aren't going to be nearly as easy as the black center valence.

don't get me wrong. painting is wayyy easier and looks just as good. but in my case...i usually dont keep my cars longer than 2 years and end up trading them in, and i like turnin them in as close to factory look as possible. if you are going to keep the truck for awhile, no prob with painting the valence.
rep sent for a SWB with a black valence

We did the gloss vinyl on my brothers truck before he painted it and it seemed to me that it dulled a little bit. Probably should've gone with the flat in the first place.

    Lol thanks!

My dad and brother both have white ones. Might have to convince my other brother to try the flat on his impulse red taco
