Someday I will get out to ride in California, but for now I just gotta wait for the Colorado resorts to open up! We have a few great DH trails here in the Black Hills but alas, no chairlift!!

thanks :D and i love it. i bought it right when that style came out in 06 and i got it on sale for 2g's but with tax it was 2200 out the boor. still good when msrp was 2500. its not too heavy for me and it is reliable. its an 06 and i haven't had many problems with it. i had to replace the rocker arms cuz they were cracking but that was a design fault and they upgraded me to the next years filled in style for free. i bound up the dereilleur into the rear spokes and trashed that, but that was my fault. and when i was at COP my chain snapped, when the mechanic put a new one on he didn't route it through the dereilleur and the first jump i hit, my derielleur again bound into my spokes, so he gave me another new chain and a new short cage deriellur.

other than that it has benn problem free.

eh... keep looking. that thing looks like it would break on you way too easy... its basically a xc f.s. bike. frame def. is not beefed up enough to take the force.

Dude instead of buying a downhill bike that will cost a lot of mulah, you should just rent a bike when you go downhilling. That is what I do, especially since there is no place to ride DH around ventura county. I go up to Mammoth every summer and rent the $2000 to $3000 bikes for only $60 a day. just my .02 cents. By the way, I can't wait till Mammoth opens for summer! maybe I'll see you up there. Good luck finding a bike if that is what you choose

So, since I'm intrigued by this sport, what is a good way to get started? Like, small basic stuff. This looks thrilling and full of adrenaline, two things I love.

Go out and get yourself a mountain bike that has full suspension and start off with some easy downhill stuff

Yea i was thinking about that but im going up there a lot this summer. We have a condo up there so i dont really want to pay 60 bucks a day and in 10 days be spending enough money to actually buy a decent bike. There are some places up in SB that are pretty good for downhilling.
Are you going to get a season pass?

    Stuff...
Nice vids, I have been hitting those trails for the last 10 years, downhill is where it's at. Velocity is Mammoth's best trail, and at the end of the first video, that trial goes into whats called x-zone, super fun bottom mountain trail, with a sweet step up, so damn fun.

Too bad you didn't post this up about 6 months ago, I just sold my last demo 8 on pinkbike.com. I have been through 2 demo 8's and 1 demo 9. I only have my trail bike now, 07 enduro. After blowing out my front tire on kamikaze going about 30mph, then flying over the handlebars about 50 feet and waking up in the Mammoth hospital, I figured it was time for a brake. I only suffered a dislocated shoulder from that, amazingly enough. I might build up a downhill bike either this summer or next summer. Probably just rent this summer, they have demo 8's for rent.

Hit me up, I ride Ojai mostly around here. And be prepared to spend some money on a good bike, I don't think 1000 bucks will do it. That might get you into a nice frame. :D

Right now i have an 06 specialized hardrock that i love taking out on the local trails. I went to matilija canyon last week and i want to go back this week.

sweet vid! i have bitten the ground a few times on those raised trails that are only about 3 ft off the ground... id probably snap my neck on those in the video with the gaps in the middles of them!

to the guy asking about how to get started... honestly... i wouldnt jump straight in to DH. get yourself a decent bike, camelback (a hell of a lot better than getting your water bottle dirtied up), helmet and hit up the local mountain bike trails around you. push yourself and your bike.... i try to get as much air off the smallest jumps on my hardtail. thats a rush in itself... not to mention when your busting through the woods with trees only a foot from either side of your body is nuts. Ive been biking for about 7-8 years now. worked in a bike shop for 2. I think i MIGHT be ready DH. thats just me though. i would rather get some experience and have fun the first DH i do rather than trying to bomb down a mountain side and kill myself.

its def. a fun sport. it can get pretty expensive... at first when you buy everything, it will def. be expensive. I have probably 10k in bikes/bike parts/tools just from adding up over the years. you will probably spend somewhere around 1,000-1,500 starting out if you get the right bike and extras that you need.

pm me if you want any more info.
