I-POD sound quality

you'll get the same sound off a usb stick as an ipod. not unless he's got non compressed files he'd be playing, which i doubt.

also, that stereo would probably bypass his jbl system and amp, loosing more quality.

Yea, all of this talk about the usb drives. My taco has a panasonic head with a usb front. I've got a 4GB flash drive with about 3GB of music on it. If you buy a HU that will read MP3, ACC, etc etc, you'll be fine. Sound quality from that is way better than aux jack or even CD player.

 

Looks like I am looking at a USE Spec for $170. Am I missing something?

Agreed. I was suggesting an arguably more convenient way to play the music, (if you have USB, the only advantage of the IPOD IMO is storage capacity)

i doubt it. there are tons of adapters that "work" with our trucks. (note you, i know i lot more about pre 2011 second gens without that aux port). the thing is though, some of them you have to follow a bunch of different steps and stuff because you are hijacking the cd input while the cd player is still hooked up to play cds (the best i understand).


im just gonna say, if you want the cut and dry, best sound, screw up free way to make your tunes from your ipod sound as good as you can; get new HU, with that adapter, and run it through the bottom port on your ipod.

Sounds like it was not a problem in the 2010 and earlier because the Sat Radio was not integrated, now there are several steps to get it to work on the CD side as you have stated. The Interface I am posting will also run through the BOTTOM for $120 and maintain the factory look. I will give it a try.

I think GROM Audio has something that works well with the 2011 JBL. This will let you keep the steering wheel control functionality as well

The USA spec is cheaper than $170, more like $120 or even cheaper depending on where you find it.

Obviously, I bought the USA spec unit because its a very popular unit and is inexpensive and it works.

But - in terms of buying a completely new head unit, I personally have a very hard time buying a 'cheap' head unit just to satisfy using my ipod on it. If you're gonna buy a head unit, do some research, and put out some cash and get a GOOD ONE with more features & goodies than your stock unit (but that's me).
