Honestly... I think the vast majority of idiots I encounter are usually gripping the steering wheel tight or slouched back and doing nothing but driving. They just suck.

Occasionally someone will be talking on their phone. I tend to drive a fair amount every day too, always in a fair amount of traffic.

Regardless I don't support making all things illegal in this country. I've never bought into that driving is a privilege thing.

    yo DB, cry more bitch

Some people drive that way stone sober while not doing anything but driving. The point is, wreckless driving is wreckless driving, doesn't matter why. Wreckless driving is against the law, plain and simple, if it caused by stupidity are we going to outlaw that (believe me I wish we could).

Alhough I agree that making it a law to not do all these distracting things while driving, I have to agree that OP has a good point.
I have seen many accidents caused by texting while driving. One accident happened right next to me while a girl was painting her toe nails while driving and she rear ended the van in front of her because she obviously did not have her foot anywhere near the brake. Worst of all she though it was all very funny.
Those who say that it is their own business what they do when they drive, have to realize that when you kill or hurt someone else due to your actions, it becomes other peoples business too.

You don't have to "buy into" it. It is a fact.

Driving is a privilege offered by each state and under state license.

Driving is regulated by the state (with some DOT oversight)...and the motor vehicle laws are enforced by the state. The states issue licenses, and the state can (and do) take them away.

    This makes it a privilege...not a right.

you are welcome to test the system in front of a judge. in most cases, you will be reduced to public transportation or a good pair of Nike's. :D

Today's society has no business in everyone's life. That (personal freedoms) is the fundamental principle behind this country. Some of those freedoms are spelled out in the constitution, while others are implied ("endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights"). At the rate we're losing freedoms (in the name of society, safety, or whatever), there will soon be none left. Punish for what is done, not continually ban for what might be done.

While those are evidently your concerns, I'm often far more concerned about impatient, self-righteous, individuals who feel they're privileged on the roadways - that others are in their way and need to tossed from their roads. This quite frequently leads to road rage, aggressiveness, speeding, tailgating, and similar - all often greater sources of accidents and deaths on our roadways.

Texting and driving is no more dangerous then drunk driving, with the exact same consequences. Dont do it unless your willing to put in the practice to do it safely

Actually, driving predates the states' efforts to regulate it. Afterwards, the states declared it a "privilege" they have a right to grant or remove. Not all, even today, fully agree with that entire assumption of power. While some regulation is obviously needed, many feel the states have gone too far (most especially on the "privilege" premise).

Seriously...your response is something I'd expect from a high school kid!

My whole argument is that if I am not bothering you, hurting you or effecting you...no matter WHAT i'm doing than don't worry about or bother me. That simple enough?

I'm not sure why your stupid ass isn't banned yet TBH

Driving shouldn't be a privilege OR a right, its a skill. There should be a high performance 10 hour or more driving exam one needs to pass that tests everything of how a vehicle reacts and teaches basic mechanics.

After that, let em loose. You'd be amazed how much safer the roads would be. This 30 minute driving test system + 15 question multiple choice exam is a fucking joke.

I just think you should have to go through the driver's test with the vehicle you actually drive on a daily basis. I see lots of people with big ass Suburbans who have no clue how big their vehicle actually is, can't park it and are stradling the white line while driving because they're used to driving a Honda Accord.

As far as the other stuff, I don't think we need more regulation for people who do stupid stuff. We already have more than enough absolutely ludicris regulations set in place by the government to protect people from themselves because they lack any trace of common sense.

Good point, buy a new vehicle and have a test in it, pilots have to be checked out and rated in different types of aircraft before flying them.

Or at least every 10 years. I mean why do you think the moment it rains or is icy there's 30 people in the ditch and 40 car accidents. CAUSE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WTF TO DO IN THOSE SITUATIONS.

Only time police should be involved is with DUI's and dangerous driving or hit and runs. And school zones, gotta protect the fucking "children". Besides that, you should be bloody well experienced enough to know what a safe speed is and/or when its safe to pass someone.
