Has anyone recieved a letter recently on frame rust? I got a letter today for my 1999 for a frame rust recall. Its asking me to stop by a dealer and have it checked, a "rust blocker" will be added for free. Ive searched and read that they basically pass the frame and spray some bedliner out of a can on the frame, is this true?

Im thinking its not worth even going in for, my frame looks great. Just wanted to get a second opinion on it.

The stuff they spray on is better than just can spray and its also free. Weird you just got the letter now though...

Yeah it is odd isnt it. The letter talked like the recall just went into effect, yet Ive read on here theyve quit doing the recall completely for my year.

You don't need a letter just roll in. If it's bad enough they might not let you leave with it.

Has nothing to do with warranty. A friend of mine took his beat to hell old 99 in and they gave him 150% of blue book. It was pretty well rusted through...Take it in.

It's a great deal if you have a severe rust problem. I spent $650 on a welder to reinforce the frame of my 98 before I got the letter. Toyota later bought it with 90K miles for $11.5k -- nice downpayment on the 2nd gen.

Well I have no rust on the frame, I sand and paint it every year. I know its old news thats what struck me odd about receiving the letter now. I assume its the extended warranty.

So if I take it in and it somehow fails, Im forced to give them the truck back?

The issue is not with exterior rust

Its frame rot...coming from the inside out

you may or may not be able to tell that your frame is bad

    Take the truck in

He's right it's inside out. It may look visually good and be rotten on the inside. Foolish not to take it in.

My old struts were shot and are now in the trash. So I could take all my suspension, leafs, tires and wheels off and theyd still take it?
