Ouch. Taking a 5-8K hit to trade up to a 4X4 mass produced truck, seems nutty. Since it's not my money I say go for it. Yolo or whatever.

But if it was my cash, I would think long and hard about buying a midsized truck for 40-42K all in. Think of it this way; how long would it take for you to earn 7K net cash?

I started with 4X4's in the mid 70's. Bought 1 4X2 truck in the early 80's after my car was totaled in a wreck. It was 6 weeks before my wedding and I needed a decent vehicle and I cheaped out and went with a 4X2. Hated it, but had to keep it about 2 years until I could afford another 4X4. Never looked back.

Any difference in insurance where I live is negligible. A 4X4 costs more initially, but is worth more at trade in time. You can drive 4X4's for a lifetime and spend very little more than a guy driving 4X2's for a lifetime.

A 4X4 MIGHT get a fraction of 1 mpg worse fuel mileage. It isn't 4X4 that kills fuel mileage. It is larger, heavier, more aggressive tires and aftermarket accessories that add weight and reduce aerodynamics. Keep a 4X4 truck stock with sensible tires on it and you'll never notice any loss of fuel mileage. Mod up a 4X2 and you'll take the same hit in fuel mileage. The '07 in my avatar is 4X4 and will get 20-22 mpg on the hwy with All Terrain 265/75/16 tires on it. Around 17-18 mpg for my normal everyday driving.

Unless you are trashing the rig off road the 4X4 systems aren't normally used nearly enough to cause any extra repairs.

I've been pleased with white, but there does seem to be a million of them and my wife thinks it looks like the trucks you see commercial business use. Most of them do seem to be white.

The white black bumper regular cab in white is the contractor's choice.

Can't help you with the other questions about colors and wheels, but I get 22mpg with a mix of highway and local roads in my 4x4 offroad (and that's after putting a prinsu on, which decreased it about 1 mpg). besides the rack and some cosmetic mods, mine is stock.

Not sure who talked you out of the 4x4 the first time, but I hope you don't listen to them anymore.

I think today's 4x4's get just as good MPG as the 2 wheelers... I just drove out to B.C. and back to Ontario, (8,000 KMS+) and I averaged 28 MPG CDN.
Our gallon is 1/2 liter more than the US gallon. so about 26 MPG. US Gallon.(I'm guessing)... Damn good for this little truck as far as I'm concerned..!!

OP... Get a new 4X4... and give the Baja a good workout man..!!!!

I have come to like white vehicles because they look clean until they get real dirty. And it doesn't go out of style. Then again, I'm 62

I'm hearing that the cruise control takes control when you come up on someone.... it brakes for you while you are texting and not watching the road...etc...

im in the same boat. i absolutely love my truck but when i think of modding it i say is it worth it? i always had 4x4 and cheeped out on this one. mine isa blazing blue pearl dc trd offroad 2wd. i would love a trdpro. i may wait till spring and trade for a pro. idk i love my color but not having 4x4 for some reason bugs me. and every time i see a trd pro taco or tundra i get a boner.
this is mine day i got it. in jan.

The cruise control uses radar to set the distance to the vehicle in front of you and will maintain that distance so you don't have to keep fiddling with your cruise. The distance can also be set by the driver. if you don't like any of the TSS simply turn it off.

So I guess it's "your thing" to text and drive and just go ahead and slam into the driver in front of you -- Good luck with that!!

I got silver, not because it's the most exciting, but because I'm a lazy SOB when in comes to washing my truck. In my opinion, silver and white are the best colours for hiding dirt and scratches.
