Hey man! Wow....That's funny you ask because I'm literally putting my truck on the market next week. I'm going to try and do private sale and see what happens. I've saved up so I can pay the difference from a SR5 2wd to a OR 4x4 in cash which would leave me in the same place I am now.
I can't wait to get ahold of a 4x4 man.

Sell it outright and buy a 4x4 OR or trade if you can't wait.

I did the same thing on my gen 1 when I bought a 4x2.

    Good luck

Good stuff man! I wouldn't worry about the gas mileage thing, the 4x4 will stay in 2wd until you switch it anyhoo.as far as color choice I think the Cement looks pretty slick. That and quicksand are my two favs right now. They both look sharp with the matte black trim look.

Oh and I bought a used 2wd Jeep Wrangler by accident once because it said "trail rated" lol! Didn't even know they made 2wd Jeep Wranglers, same reason they make 2wd OR tacos I guess... But I'll be damned if I know what it is.

Don't suppose I could come too if you do this :). Still haven't taken my taco off roading since I just got it.

My local Toyota dealership is pretty fair on trade-ins IMHO. I'd generally rather trade than do a private sale, don't care for having to answer calls, do test rides, try to deal with a bunch of people......and then the calls bitching about every single issue that arises for about the next 5 years. Avoiding all of that is worth a good couple grand to me, easy!

Just go to the dealer. Tell them the cash you have for down, what you need to get for your truck and what you can pay for the new truck. Do your research, shop multiple dealers and don’t be pushed around.

Or do the dealer dirty and tell them you are an extra couple grand upside down and then get them down as low as you can on the out the door cost of the new truck and the APR. They will go lower on the price of the vehicle because they think they will make additional money on the resale of your truck. Once they get the price down low enough, just finance the truck for that amount/apr, tell them you are no longer trading in and go sell your truck to one of the carmax parasite companies or privately.

I have done this a couple times and it is hilarious to watch their face when they realize they are the ones who got shafted and try to tell you that now the price is higher while they dance around the fact that when they looked up your payoff you were not nearly as upside down as you said and they were of course not going to let you know that...

If you're worried...That is my mileage on my 2017 MGM 4x4 SR5. I get more than the wife with her 4X4 with the 4 banger...needless to say, she's not happy!

The difference between MPG’s in 4x4 vs 4x2 shouldn’t be a factor. It’s minimal. If you want an Off Road rig you shouldn’t be worried about MPG’s anyways.

On my 18 TRD 4x4 ORDC I’m getting about 18.4 in the city. Highway I’m always over 20. I came from a Wrangler and love the MPG on the taco.

I think you should at least see what kind of deal the dealer will offer you. They are really trying to get rid of these Taco’s. With low APR of 0% APR as long as you plan on keeping your next Off-Road you may be able to work something out sooner rather than later. Sure you could sell yours on the open market, but you are not guaranteed a sale plus it could take a long time and involve tons of hassle. Let us know what you end up doing!

I haven't ruled out a brand new one but my plan was to sell mine privately and then buy a used 2017 or 2018 so i'd still end up with a newer taco and potentially less miles than mine but like a few of you said... I might do the dance at the dealership.
nevertheless, I'm stoked and have my list of mods ready, places to go and I'm beyond excited.
    I'll keep ya guys posted.

It's definitely worth it, but expect worse gas mileage, not better from the O.R. It all comes down to how you drive.

P.S. EVERYONE WHO SEES MY QUICKSAND O.R. LOVES THE COLOUR!

    Good luck!

Totally understandable. Look up the price of used Tacos though. They are so expensive you could pay $1,000 more a lot of times and get new. If our trucks depreciated quickly then yeah getting a deal on a used one is possible. I bought my new OR for 32,500 and it’s a manual! Just do lots of research. You can find good deals if you try and negotiate to get the best deal possible.

I’ve always thought it is ridiculous for someone to call the seller after the sale to bitxh about something.

You buy something private party, it’s what you would expect. I once sold a beater car I used in college without a spare. My craigslist ad stated “no spare.” The damn car sold for 2k. The guy called me and wrote me a letter stating he was disappointed the car didn’t come with a spare about 3-4mths after the sale.
I’ve also been bitched out on the phone for supposedly listing my price to high in my wife’s old CRV we sold via the craigslist. If I’m too high, don’t buy it! Private party usually nets you a couple grand more than a trade but it is a Hassle.

" I pretty muchgot talked out of 4x4 because of higher insurance and gas milage"

Then your salesman saw you coming!
    You got screwed.
Going to Baja regularly and off roaring. Unless your going only to pre runner race 4x2 is worthless for your needs
Cement is now available on non-PRO.
Take it back and get the truck you want.
And if Cali(sucks) cant get a 4x4 fly to AZ or OR and get 4x4.
I learned that no matter how rushed for time if im spending that much $ I better be getting what i want. I got rushed one time and hated it everyday.

Yes, my commute is mostly rural without a lot of lights or stop signs. But I do drive s little in the city as well so that always keeps me close to that. I drive around the speed limit but when one the freeway I’ll push 70 in the 65.
