    Note: "Seatbelt" Mike Sweers is the chief Toyota Truck engineer and was noted saying the Turd gen only shares a seat buckle with the 2nd gen - otherwise everything is brand new....

    perhaps my strangest driving experience was spending all day driving Toyota trucks (without beds) off of ship from Japan and then spending a few hours loading right-hand drive Toyota trucks back on that very same ship to go back to Japan.

    I did not witness where these were built, but I did personally drive a small number of right-hand drive trucks that were sent back to Japan.

    I'm pretty sure when he was talking to you about "TRD" motors, he meant the actual motors that TRD uses in house for testing and such. Not what come in TRD sport or offroad models. Because i am 110% positive that all 1gr's are exactly the same.

    Hmmm.....Didn't notice that before. That was the whole reason I went with the Sport, because the OR didn't come with a LB.












    .....and my inner 14 year old self kinda likes the hood skewp. It adds, like, 30hp or something :D

    Actually this is surprisingly incorrect. It even took an audit by Toyota to have light of the problem under their nose. The '03-'04 1GR (4Runner and made in Japan) had ever so slightly different tolerances on the heads, different intake cam gear sensors, and slightly different intake cam gears than the '05 - '15 (Tacoma) 1GR's.

    The '05-'15 Tacoma 1GR's are the same as the ones in the FJ's and 4Runners, until those platforms changed to the DUAL VVT-I 1GR.

    Different engine altogether. Different heads, different cam function, different crank, Different. Etc... Yet still called the 1GR-FE.

    Obvious to see how that can create a logistics nightmare for parts. As even some of the parts had the same numbers. Until clerical revisions were made.

    Gas mileage, bearing and load tests over time. Engine wear. Which oils can meet certain engine criteria. Oil types by region.

    TRD division is (was) separate from Corporate. I was just stating why Toyota would do oil testing. All manufacturers do.
