When I bought this 2016 Tacoma, I figured it was going to be the last pickup truck for me.

So far, so good- 3+ years and 40+k miles, it's by far the best truck I have owned.

I would like to think I will still be driving it in 20 plus years, but I am also a realist.

If this truck stops taking me where I need to go and getting me back home again, it's a goner no doubt in my mind.

End of the day, it's just a truck, a mechanical device, not perfect, doesn't make me taller or more muscular, doesn't increase my IQ, doesn't increase my lifespan, etc.

My last truck, a Dodge Dakota was according to some, a POS, but it never once didn't start and run when I turned the key in 19 years of ownership. I did some jury rigging from time to time though.

And there are a lot more electronics on these new trucks- time will tell if that makes keeping them running a problem.

By the way, I made a note on my calendar to check back in with you on July 5th, 2029 to see how you and your Tacoma are doing.

    Cheers.

My 2017 Limited has been rock solid. I plan to keep it to ~120k miles. It has 37k now.

The 5,000 mile trip was 18 day vacation. Yep, we start off from the Milwaukee area.
Saw family in Nevada (2 day drive) stayed in Reno for 7 days. Drove to Oregon from Nevada next day. Spent a entire day at Crater lake National Park, Oregon. Spent 3 days in Seattle.
Went to The falls east of Seattle .

Spent 2 full days at Yellowstone.
    Don’t forget Bears tooth highway

Also spent a 1/2 day at Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.(it’s the northern Badlands)

I miss my ‘89 but the room for gear is awesome in the new ones. My ‘15 was ok but my ‘17 has 4wd and well, ”looks better!”

4 door mini-truck is the ultimate form factor for what I need my vehicle to do. Until someone releases a better one, I’m sticking with this vehicle. I’ve had no problems other than a parking brake cable issue that was self-inflicted, and a head unit that died in the first week. I haven’t bothered with any tunes or TSBs or anything. Truck is solid, and there is no better option on the market, in my personal opinion. I’ll be driving it into some of the most remote areas of North America next month without worry. Quite literally, the middle of nowhere.

I certainly won’t be buying an SUV and a trailer to replace the additional utility of a small 4-door pickup....so the “get a Runner” bros can leave it at the door.

If they decided to make an updated 1st gen I'd trade in a minute but barring that I'm good, no issues.

They did (2nd generation) and then they updated that, too (3rd generation).

I've had Tacoma's since before they called them Tacoma's, a Landcruiser and a couple 4Runners. This 2019 is as slapped together as any of them. Feels like a cushy rock barreling down the road. Love it!

2017 MT at 50k here and i talk like it'll last forever and there are no other MTs available on the planet. but that's not actually the case.

if this truck can hang in there for 14 more years and still runs and is maintainable, it will be my boy's first vehicle. it's a gamble to get that far with it, but a worthy gamble nonetheless.

Maybe. I am still leaving myself open to trade into the last model year of the current gen 4Runner whenever they announce the next generation.

Too many TSBs for the first year of driving the vehicle. A few more QC issues than I expected for the legendary Tacoma. Still, what are the alternatives for a mid-size pickup? Ranger? GM twins? Don't make me laugh.

The 4Runner is really the only other game in town for me.

74,000 miles on my 2016. 1st Tacoma was an 08 that was over 150k and still ran like a champ. The parking lot at work looks like a Tacoma rally.

I don't have any intentions of ever getting rid of it. The ride is excellent. It's roomy enough for my needs. It gets better mpg then my 3.5 eco boost F150 did. (Shrug) ymmv. Don't love yours? Life's short. Drive what makes you happy.
