I think I decided on my lift setup. Do I need anything else?

Hey guys. Newish to the whole lifting specifics, looking to see if anyone has any critiques. I do some light offroading and go through decent mud (that North Carolina clay), and towing every once in a while, but nothing ridiculous. I load up the bed mostly. When I get the lift I'll be trying to fit 285/70/R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers, I know a little trimming will have to be done. Here's what I'm considering:

    Front:
    Bilstein 5100s @ 2.5 - Edit...not sure why I put 2.75.
    OME 884 coils
Toytec top plate spacer for full 3 inches

    Rear:
    Dakar leaf pack
    All Pro U-Bolt flip kit

    Also extended brake lines.

Just wanted to make sure that I shouldn't need UCAs right? Also, are new shocks needed in the rear? Thanks for any help.

Bilsteins are 2.5 max and most are able to get away without new UCAs.
884's are awesome, can't go wrong. Should be somewhere around 2-2.25 lift
with the 3" spacer you will most likely need UCAs. I believe anything 3"+ needs them replaced.

keep in mind with any of these lifts replacing the control arms will make for a much nicer ride.

and yes. You need new shocks in the rear.

Keep stock coils or set billies at zero. And you will need UCA' s st close to 3 inches. Most likely anyway.

I am guessing you have a access cab. If it is double cab I would go with 885's.

    I am no expert though

Yes I have an access cab which is why I chose the 884. I don't want to shell out $600 so maybe I'll try to get away without the top plate spacer first.

So bilsteins set @ 0 with the coils? Or should I just not worry about the coils and do just 5100s @ 2.5?

And what shocks for the rear, 5100s as well?

    Too many damn questions haha

Bilsteins at 2.5 on stock coils makes the ride fairly stiff. I ended up going with 884s on bilsteins set at 0.... If you're going 5100 in the front, you might as well go 5100 in the rear.

With the one coils set billies at zero. Otherwise you are stacking lifts and that is bad. You could keep stock coils and set billies at 2.5 but the ride will be better with the ome coils. Get some uca's like light racing.

I just did darn near the same set up. In the rear I put 5100's and a 1.5" wheeler progressive aal (overload left in) and 5100's. That brought my rear up about 2.25"

I love my setup so far. Rides amazing IMO. Many more informed people should chime in though.

You make a good point Beavis. I'll go with the 885 coils.

    So as of now....

    Front:
    5100s @ 0
    OME 885 coils

    Rear:
    Dakar leaf pack
    5100s @ 0
    All-Pro U-bolt flip kit

    Extended brake lines

So this should be a solid setup? Hopefully I can get away without UCAs.

You know I'm not sure, I guess I've just seen people on here running that combo and assumed it was the way to go.

So I'm assuming the OME 90000 shocks up front and then the rear shock set would be the way to go instead of the 5100s all around? Makes a lot more sense now that I think about it lol.

Billies will work fine with ome coils if that is what you want. I believe most run 884 coils on access cab, 885 on double, and 886 if there is a heavy bumper. And most need uca's, or she floats around on you.

Not sure if you need extended brake lines or not.

I believe the 5100's are quite a bit cheaper. I bought my 5100's on TW for cheap with no miles which is why I bought them. They are awesome and love the ride! The Nitrocharger's are made for the coils but I can't imagine it's a huge difference. If I was buying new I'd do it again. I couldn't find the Nitrocharger's cheap so...

    I have my 5100's @ 0 with 885's
Can't go wrong with either and if you have the extra coin get the Nitrocharger's.

so far, URD throwout bearing kit(sleeve), weathertechs, 285/70/17's on Ion 17x9 and OME 885s and Dakars and nitro sports. BHLM
two reasons I didn't go with 5100's with my 885's. 1. I emailed toytec about the setup and they responded "do not run bilstein and OME 885's together". 2.I ran 5100s on the tundra I had and they lasted about 20k miles and went to leaking oil. So this time I went all OME and Dakar. I love the setup as I haul fire wood and pull a trailer from time to time but the ride unloaded on the road is stiffer than stock. Offroad the ride is much better than stock. I have nitro charger 90000 and 885x's up front and nitro charger sport and dakars with extended brake lines in the back. I got about 3 inches in the back and 2.75 in the front.

So if I keep the stock coils and run the 5100s @2.5 the ride will be a little rough?

A tad bit more stiff. I currently have my truck set at 2.5 using stock coils and it's not as bad as you might think. I had a Samurai lifted, now that thing was rough. A Tacoma's at 2.5 is like a caddy compaared to that. I like how my truck rides currently with this set-up.

Maybe I should do some searching, but does anyone know why Toytec would advise us not to run the OME coils with 5100's? I know that the Nitro's would be a better choice in this scenario, because they designed together. I guess I am just looking for the why the 5100's wouldn't work.

They will work and hundreds of people use them. Toytec says that because the nitros are made for the coils and I'm sure They want to push those products together.
I'm so impressed with the ride of my 885's and 5100's. Both are great setups. If I would have had the extra cash I would have done the nitro's I guess just because they are made for them.
