I just bought a 2012 Tacoma sr5 4x4 with 79,950 miles on it I test drove it(about 10 miles) and had no issues and I liked it so I bought it.On my way home, about 45 miles the CEL and tracoff lights came on.I have a cheap code reader and got p2440,p2441 and p442 so not just a loose gas cap I assume. I have an appointment tomorrow at the dealers so they can check it. So what do you think are my chances of getting any satisfaction from them? Should I contact my state attorney general as I feel this should fall under the lemon law because you don't have full safe use of your vehicle.I just read that it is an 80,000 mile warranty. I'm only 10 miles over that.

Depends on the state but Lemon Law usually only applies to when you buy it brand new and that extends for 2 years or 25k in Georgia. You have to be out of the vehicle for a period totaling 30 days in that time or something deemed a safety issue.

I don’t think you are covered here. 80k is 80k and if they fix it under warranty then you are fortunate. Not sure what your terms were but every used vehicle I bought was “as is” or you get the remainder of a transferred manufacturer warranty.

See what the codes are first using the google machine. One may trip the other two and may not be a big deal. Let them offer to fix it definitely but I don’t think you have any legal grounds unless there is something unique in your state.

DISCLAIMER- I am not a lawyer but I have never failed a bar in my life.

Was it a stealership or one of those corner, used card lots?

Here's an idea, before you get to wound up....why don't you bring the truck in and have them look at it. Why on earth would you even bring up the "state attorney general" lol. And as for the lemon law, new car and it needs to be a repetitive problem that the dealer cannot fix.
It's mechanical, just see what's wrong and if they fix it.
Hopefully if they do fix it, you won't feel to silly to come back and say (false alarm)

Well, in that case, hopefully they have a decent to semi-decent reputation to uphold. Hopefully they will help you out.

2012 = P2440. Seems very common for 2012's. Search "air injection". Mostly likely need valves. OEM part for this is $$$.

Thanks,I've been researching here and other sites all day and have found lots of info on this system. It seems to me Toyota purposely designed these valves and pump to fail just to screw the American market because they had to comply with our EPA laws. this system isn't on toyotas in the asian market.

They changed the system to push air through the reed valves to dry them at shut down for the 13+.

Very unfortunate for the '12's....but hardly some conspiracy.

Not sure where your located but in Jersey a lot of used vehicles come with guarantied inspections
Check to see if so in your case this would not pass and they would have to fix

    Good luck

If they don't fix it, it's not that hard to replace. I don't remember the exact cost but it would be around $500-$800 for the OEM valves. Just very suspicious that the light turned on right after you left the dealership. Most likely they cleared it while it just sat on the lot.

Why didn't you turn around as soon as the light came on? I would have went back to resolve it then.

I'll tell you now that kindness and being personable goes a LONG way with people bending the rules. Basically you bought a vehicle that has a bunch of mechanical systems that can go out anytime. They have your money already so being rude towards them will get you no where and suing them won't get you anywhere either because as i stated it's a mechanical system that can go out at anytime. I bought my truck used with 114k miles and the dealership did have a 30 day warranty against drivetrain. I was just a couple days outside that and a wheel bearing went out. I approached my salesmen with the issue and guess what.... they took care of it!!! So be reasonable when you talk to them. See if they did a state inspection before selling the car. If they did that means all monitors were good to go and passed so the problem couldn't have been active if it passed state.
