Frankly, no you shouldn't buy a Tacoma. It is not anything like your FR-S. It's going to handle only slightly better than your wife's jeep. Sounds like you are looking for a lightly used Euro SUV. An Audi Q something or a BMW X whatever. Or a Mercedes G thingy.

I would get the OR, like my mountain bike, I can go onroad and offroad on my mountain bike. But you can't go offroad on a road bike.

Totally agree. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio looks pretty neat too (if you can get past the FCA interior pieces)

Kick that puppy into SI mode and fly away. (Its basically a lifted, slightly bigger WRX hatchback.)

I just talked my dad into getting one and the puppy feels like it can do anything.

Test drive the Sport, Off Road and Pro. All are a little different handling and suspension.

I came from a MT FR-S and I miss the third pedal, drifting, gas mileage, and track days. That being said, I love the Tacoma much more and wouldn't go back. However, I do have a motorcycle for when I feel like I need to toe my own. If music isn't that important, get a MT Taco (JBL version can't have a MT), you'll save yourself the headache of Toyota's gas sipping shifting feature, but there are fixes for that, too.

I have a 17' TRDOR and my wife has a 13' FRS. I couldn't imagine parting with either, haha. I cant be much help for your dilemma, sadly.

The transmission, dead gas pedal feeling and lack of low end torque drives a ton of people BANANAS. Make sure you test drive like Bill said.

People buy trucks for a lot of different reasons. If you don't have to have a truck for hauling or towing, remember that there're compromises to a Tacoma; the seating position is a little different, the vehicle is longer so backing up and parking can be more challenging, it's not particularly fast, and doesn't get particularly good gas mileage. There are many crossovers/ suv's that don't have the hauling/ towing capability of a truck, but also don't have the compromises.

    Completely correct!

I did just that, and I found:

Sport- crisp handling, but harsh ride over rough pavement.

OR- nice, plush ride on all surfaces, but wallowed in turns, and a bit floaty at highway speeds.

Pro- best of both worlds. Handles and corners flatter, like a sport. Much more compliant (actually magical, thanks to FOX) ride over rough stuff.
Controlled, but comfortable. And plenty of bells and whistles.

    Save $100 a month, right?

Because you're spreading the peanut butter out further? So you're actually spending a good bit more over the life of the loan.

While cash flow is always a consideration, it's not a great reason to dig the debt hole deeper on a depreciating item.
