I was under the impression that trucks who got a failed frame inspection weren't allowed to be driven home and kept on the road for the months it takes for a frame?

The service mngr. said I can give u a loaner if you want. But its gonna be at least 2-3 months before frame arrives...You have the cleanest truck ive ever seen, sometimes things get bumped into outside, weather could affect it sitting in elements so long with out being washed and taken care of. Seem he was just being honest with me. So I said no problem I will come get my loaner when frame arrives. He said for any reason if u decide u want the loaner let him know

.... none of that makes any sense.

Your frame is either safe to drive or it isn't. It failed inspection, thus deemed unsafe.

The loaner is on their dime, not yours. Why take the risk out of their pocket and put it in yours?

DCSBFTMFW: I thought the same thing. When they told me my truck "qualified" for a frame replacement (back in March), I thought for sure they were going to deem it "unsafe" and take it right there and then and give me a loaner. It doesn't make any sense to me that they didn't. Me and my Brother put it on a lift at his shop and parts of the frame were a little rusty, but no holes like some of you guys have. I don't get it but whatever.
So I got the truck back last night. It drives and feels like it did when I bought it new. I drove it straight to the shop and made sure there were no funky gaps in any body panels, the hood, access doors, etc. *everything* opened and shut as it should. Put it on the lift (didn't think to take pics..duh) but it looks like they did a good job. It does sit a bit higher than it originally did, for a TRD Sport, but I don't care. Drove straight as an arrow today to work on the highway. Oh and I have to admit, while waiting I test drove a Prius just for kicks and you guys were right, it was a hell of a lot better than I expected. Happy to have it back...

So I also have a trd sport...is it the new leaf pack that makes it sit up higher? Does it sit up higher just in the back or front as well? Does it sit level? Thanks for any info

No.....*this* is love LOL. My '92 turbo-targa that was filthy after a day at the track when this was taken. Not so much in New England with wet leaves though. I don't think I could even begin to list what i've done to this. Anywho.... BLAZZE2005: I don't think it was the new leaf packs that makes it sit higher, it's the new frame for some reason. They must use different bushings or something. I wish I thought ahead and measured the height of it before it went in and now after. It's not by much, but it's definitely higher. I can still change lanes at a high speed and not get that "tip" or "bounce"...if you know what I mean. I absolutely cannot handle that. I was lucky enough to be driving to work this morning (a remote highway) and waited purposely for no one to be around (I always do) and I nailed it and changed lanes back and forth, trying to see if it was there. It wasn't/isn't. Thank GOD. I would've brought it back if it did. Or messed with the springs. Hope this helps.

    Death Truck....Thanks
How long did u wait for your frame to come in? How many days did it take for swap?
My dealer told me 2-3 months for frame to arrive. Needs truck 5-10 days for swap. He also told me that the number of trucks coming in for swaps is slowing up. He even showed me his computer screen of all the 2nd gen frame swaps they did...their were hundreds

No problem..glad I could help *someone* for a change. It took about 5 (? I'll have to back-track posts as I drive other things during the Summer) Months for the frame to come in. But i'm pretty sure it just depends on where you live. I'm in Central MA and I had Herb Chambers of Auburn MA do it. I have to say they were great. I'm trying to remember when I dropped it off but it wasn't even a week before it was ready. It was pouring rain when I picked it up but I can't wait for a day off (the weekend) to actually park it level and see how much higher it is and if it's level, like you asked. I'll keep you posted. It honestly does drive like the day I bought it new. Hope this helps...

Sweet! I will make sure I take measurments before and after....please post up some pics. I also noticed something tuesday when they took me in the shop to show me a frame swap being done. When I bout my tacoma new in 05 I noticed my frame was never shiny black. More flat black. When we seen them doing frame swap, same thing frame was dull black.

Now on the new 2016 tacoma out front at dealer, frame on that truck was high gloss black. So either their clear coating them or thay are indeed a new frame with a better rust coating. I guess only time will tell

Funny you should mention that as I noticed the same thing. When I bought my truck new the frame (like you said) was dull black. Now it seems a bit more shiny. Like I said, I won't have any time to really look at it and post pics until Sat. as I work 6:30am until around 8:00pm. and it's pitch black when I get out. Ahhhh...life in the ER. I'll keep you posted....

Well still no noises, rattles, anything (it drives like the day I drove it off the lot) and i've taken it up to 120mph-ish as ...I want to know sooner rather than later if there's a problem. I still can't figure out why they replaced it when it wasn't rotted..nowhere near the pics you guys are posting. Weird but cool.

Dealer called...my frame is in after a 1 month wait. Dropping it off Thursday. I also ordered 4 new oem billstine shocks for it. He said 5-10 days to complete the swap.

I have a new frame and leaf springs per the recall and my rear sits an inch and a half higher. I also installed 5100s but that shouldn't matter. Should settle a bit so right now I'm just sitting tight. So far I've been pleased with the work and parts done. Considering the fact that Mother Nature is cooperating this winter we shouldn't be seeing a huge amount of freezing precip in Virginia this year. This bodes well for anti rust on the new frame.

Best of luck to you guys with your frame replacements. I see train cars twice a week pass through Austin from the San Antonio Toyota plant where I believe the frames are assembled? I see train cars like this all the time passing through town:

The frames are made in Mexico, but close-ish to San Antonio. The San Antonio plant is certainly a distribution point for them though. They probably just send everything from the Mexico plant to San Antonio.
