Austin seems to be harsh from my searches. Lots of the ‘add on’ crap.

There is a thread on here somewhere listing all the dealers that are selling at MSRP, which ain't many, and the others that add a MA. I have been looking for a new solar octane Pro for a month or more....I found MA's from $2500 all the way to $15,000 and I didn't have any dealer back off those numbers. I finally found one on a lot for basically MSRP. It has the junk SET Toyoguard $699 option and then about $900 in misc. processing fees. It's an automatic and I was OTD for just under $56,200. I fly in and pick it up Friday.

My local dealer told me they have 5000 units on order for customers. They are making some cash on the down payment interest too.

Ummm, I never said $5,000 on a Prius, I said $5,000 on an AWD Prius; those suckers are about as rare as a Tacoma with a 6-Speed Manual. The buyer of this particular AWD Prius drove nearly 300 miles to see the one AWD model within 1,000 miles of him; he wanted the car, and I mean really wanted it, he fussed and complained, and in the end, he paid the markup.

As long as they are scarce and a long wait to get one that will prop up the used market for the impatient which in turn allows the dealer to ask a premium for a new one. In the upcoming economy I'm sure there will be good deals.

LOL, my son told me his manager was laughing at him for continuing to negotiate with the buyer, the manager was sure the buyer was going to walk; apparently the look on his face when my son brought in the completed paperwork was worth the price of admission.

In many ways I agree with you, I wouldn't own a Prius of any stripe even if it was free; that said, my son's commissions check next week will be fairly robust, so I guess I can't be too hard on the new owner.

Just in time, inventory levels may be the new norm ? Low inventory =lower overhead for the manufacturers/dealers, what is not to like from a business standpoint ?

Quicksand with hood protector, color matching decals on tailgate latch, mudflaps, glovebox, and tailgate hitch cover.
In this day and age, with the internet, and dealers showing their inventory online, etc, it is SO easy to just ignore these dealers who are adding markup and just go to another dealer who doesn't mark up the sticker. Heck, the local dealer here in Oakland CA, One Toyota, actually has a HUGE BANNER on the side of their building saying NEVER PAY OVER MSRP. Just go to another dealer...

But they tell you it's extra value. AND the next thing they offer will be gap insurance if you take out a loan. If you get lucky a years supply of KY.

Last year when I was in for service I walked through the showroom to kill time and overheard the salesman who originally sold me my truck. The customer had complained about the market adjustment and the sales guy was trying to overcome the objection by pitching some BS like "think of it as a savings account for when you sell the car". I was so shocked he would try and sell that that I blurted out within earshot of the customer "yea, until the market starts to move and then your savings account disappears, but the sales guy still has his commission". The sales guy hasn't spoken to me since LOL.

There's an electric lime 6MT TRD OR at Toyota North Charlotte with a $6000 market adjustment. They have it out on display front and center. I'm trying to keep an eye on it to see how long it hangs around.

You're better off staying from them anyway. There are other, better dealers in the area.

Here in northern NJ they are discounting from MSRP. Towne Toyota is doing $1,000 off but it looks like it just started as they still have a few with a markup listed as well.
