This shouldnt matter if the tank is evenly distributed with a correct guage. A HALF A TANK SHOULD BE A HALF A TANK. Do these trucks move faster in the top half vs. the bottom half like my original post said?

    neglect, mostly.
well fuck that man. i can get 200 miles on the first half a tank and then only get 100 miles on the rest of the tank. the gauge is not what matters. fill it up, clear odo, drive her till she's nearly empty, fill it up, divide miles driven by gallons put in. . . . then get back to us.

oh, and im in college too and also don't have a lot of money on me, but i always fill up. it saves money in the long run actually.

Gotta take everything we say with a grain of salt... we're not all assholes all of the time. You know what you have to do. Do that and then report back. There really is no way we can help any further beyond that point.

yeah I understand thats why at the beginning i asked if it made a difference where the tank was filled to and whether the first half went slower/faster etc..wasnt saying my measurements were correctly done thats why i had ~

The problem is there is no way to accurately determine how much gas is in a "half tank". The meter doesn't shut off when your tank is half-full. You need to fill it up completely, then drive it down to at least 1/4 tank (the farther you drive, the more accurate it will be), The fill it back up COMPLETELY and do the math. This will tell you how far you drove on that amount of fuel.

EX: You drive to the gas station and put 10 gallons in...OK great. You have no idea how much fuel was still in the tank (you have a rough estimate, but nowhere near as accurate as you need to be). Now you have some obscure amount of fuel in the tank, and no baseline to begin your measurements. Now you drive 150 miles, and you fill up with another 10 gallons...great. You cannot get any useful data from that.

Ok I get 21 to 22 mpg all the time.Fill up all the way to the top of fill tub.329 miles give or take at around 1/4 tank.OP no offense but you do live in Atlanta and on I -75 that is famous for sitting still for over 1 hr. at a time at least. Now stop whining and do what others suggest and fill the tank run it through and fill it up again and take note of your numbers milage divided by amount of gallons that will give you you mpg.If you drive like the rest of Atlanta you drive like you stole it:burnrubber:.

Do the newer Tacomas have a bigger tank? Mine is a 2005 and my tank can only hold 18-19.
