Rust on the inside of the driver door underneath the door seal on a 2017. I battled with rust on my first gen the entire time I owned it I don’t know if I can do it again. I really thought I wouldn’t have to worry about it as much on a newer vehicle. I guess this can be a heads up if you live in the rust belt check under your door seals.

did you pop it off to see if it's worse underneath? My 17 has that too, but I'm pretty sure it's because I took it on the beach on day and then smashed salty sand into the paint with my work boots the next day before cleaning it. That was 5+ years ago and it hasn't gotten noticeably worse.

Yea I pulled it off and cleaned as much as I could and put some paint on it, hopefully it’ll keep it from getting worse for the rest of winter

I think that every vehicle in the rust belt eventually succumbs to some rust with enough time. Your '17 is now 8 years old.

    Too bad it's LONG expired.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36
months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

Touch it up with Fluid Film or Krown periodically and it should be okay. This happened on my 4Runner and it didn't spread.

I am lucky I guess. I did pretreat with crc but I do wash after salt/snow and every 2 weeks. I wax the truck twice a year March, September.
