I agree. Dirty chev 350 swaps seem to be reasonably common on the 1st and 2nd gen 4runners, so i'd imagine they wouldn't be outrageous in a tacoma.

Or, build a 2rz or 3rz. I watched a couple videos of some forced-induction RZ's today on youtube, it got me thinking. They were pullin hard!

I was actually considering a Chevy V8 swap into mine when the 2.7 let go. I decided against it only because of fab time and cost. I am still sitting on my Chevy LS1 Corvette motor and am waiting for a project car/truck to put it into. The conversion can be made with a reasonable amount of fabrication. Most of what I have seen done is the cutting out of the front crossmember, and welding a never pair, one in the front, and another bolt in one in the back, just under the transmission. This is needed for strength and rigidity due to the torque that this frame is not designed to take, and the removal of the original is to allow for the oil pan. There are a couple of companies out there that offer a "bolt-in" kit that consists of prefabbed engine mounts, bellhousing adapters, and transmission mounts. These kits are only for the install thought, and do not take into account the pre-mods you have to make to the frame and suspension. I am not sure if this is required, but so far I have not seen a Tacoma with a V8 swap that retained the IFS. They all had an SAS swap done as well.

I agree with Rebel, when mine goes out im going diesel. I think you can get one of those sent in from japan for less than $2K if that doesnt work then the cummins 4bt engine would be good.
