    I Want A New Frame

By Louis Hugh and the Screws

    I want a new frame
    One that won't fall apart
One that one make me crash my truck
    Or make me shout WTF!

    I want a new frame
One that you can't poke through
One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or leave my drive stained red

    [Chorus]
One that won't make me nervous
    Wonderin' what it'll do
One that makes me wheel like I wheel when I'm with you
    When I'm off-road with you

    I want a new frame
One that won't split in half
One that don't cost too much
    And come with a bill

    I want a new frame
    One that won't rot away
One that won't keep me up all night
One that won't make me curse all day

    [Chorus]
One that won't make me nervous
    Wonderin' what it'll do
One that makes me wheel like I wheel when I'm with you
    When I'm off-road with you
    I'm off-road with you, baby

    I GOT a new frame
One that does what it should
One that makes me feel so good
One that's all shiny and new

    I got a new frame
    One with no rust
One that won't flex too much
Or let the shocks fall out

One that won't make me nervous
    Wondering what it'll do
One that makes me wheel like I wheel when I'm with you
    When I'm off-road with you
    I'm off-road with you...

    -----------------
Ok, so I don't have the new frame *yet*. The truck's been at the dealer for two and a half weeks, and I expect it to take another two or three weeks. The dealer went to pains to explain what I needed to do with the loaner after 30 and 60 days :). But, still.....New Frame, Whoo-Hoo!

    Little bit of stuff.
First of all, that's hilarious. Weird Al would be proud. Second of all, you're pretty damn lucky with that time frame. (pun intended as always) Mine took a few days short of 7 months.

    Freee-yow!

Well, I'll admit the time estimate is just a guess. The service manager/guy suggested it'd take a little over a month. They had eight other frames stacked up out-back, and lead times were a month or so (he implied).

Still, *my* frame isn't in yet, and the service guy wouldn't be precise, so, who knows.

7 months rental @ $70/day.... that's (gross) nearly $15,000 JUST for the loaner. I'm sure Toyota corporate gets a discount on the rental, but that still a lotta lotta in addition to the frame and labor itself.

So I *got* my new frame.

28 days (less 5 minutes) from drop off for the inspection to completion. 29 days including the extra day until I was able to pick it up. This included performing 3 other minor recalls as well (seatbelts, spiral cable & floor mat interference.... the leaf spring issue was superseded by the frame replacement).

Though the frame had been pretty nasty, there were no complications during the ..... procedure. As others have noted, the replacement included new brake lines and new leaf springs.

Looking at the other new frames round back, I could see the openings where the frame transitioned from boxed to C were plugged (that might be the "PLUG, HOLE KIT" in the invoice). There were also four rotten frames in their vicinity. I wasn't able to get any pictures of any of those.

I GOT A NEW FRAME! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! No more loaner-RAV4. No more worrying if that next bump/pothole will break my truck. Yee-Haw!

On an unrelated side note, The loaner I had was, as mentioned, a RAV4. 2017 or possibly 2016 model year. Nice enough if that's what you want (subaru's are superior in every way I could tell). But one thing I did notice in the 28 days I had it, was the infotainment system is a steaming pile of something nasty. Man, if I'd paid extra for that I'd be pissed. It worked, mind, but was ugly as sin and quite obnoxious to figure out how to do anything other than the most basic things. Yech!

Lower control arms were replaced. I'd looked at the UCAs, which were not replaced, and didn't look down.

That's the (I'm guessing) two "ARM SUB-ASSY, SUSPEN" lines on page 2.
There's a sticker on the part, but until tomorrow I won't be able to get a look at it.
