Don't mean to hyjack the thread but maybe a thread reader can streer me to a yard or someone with an XRunner effects kit. I just picked up an XRunner minus the kit

 

Do non xRunner fenders have factory attaching holes? Are the rear fenders unique to the xRuñner?

Yes and no. What I mean by this is the front fenders are not unique to the X-Runner because there are no holes in the fenders to mount the fender flares because they mount inside the fender... with the black compression tabs that hold in the plastic fender liners. So these fenders are the same as a base model 5 lug Tacoma. The rear bedside fenders are unique to the X-Runner because they do have holes in the fenders to hold on the side ground effects in front of the rear tire and behind the rear tire.

I don't know of any replacement kit but you can order each part separately from a Toyota dealership. The fenders definitely look like X-Runner fender front and rear.

 

Yeah thanks, got 2 different list from 2 different dealers. Its quite confusing as to what exactly is needed. Much of the original hardware is still on. You know the 100's of $5 each (sarcasm) misc.clips & do dads.

I'm in no rush and hoping to find a part out. Craigslist, row52 etc...

I started this Retrofit Headlight project about 2 years ago. I have been researching want others have done and what I wanted. I took styles and options from different people and different vehicles and blended them into the pair that I created below. I started with my original stock Tacoma headlights. I knew I wanted the color matching fiberglass headlight brows. I had these painted months ago when I did all the ground effects on the truck. Next, I knew I wanted to have a JDM black look for the interior parts. I borrowed the orange projector surrounds from “ KuPsTaHx808 “ and his X-Runner but I had to come up with my own color that is an orange-ish/red. I think with the headlight brows and the colored surrounds, it looks like a set of angry animal eyes. I have also included a set of red “demon eye” LEDs inside the projector to help with this look but at this point in time… I have not run the wire through the firewall and hooked it up to a toggle switch (when I get some free time). Next, I borrowed the big amber led ring style around the headlight from the Dodge Challenger as an amber Halo. This is hooked up to my daylight running lights (DRL) and also my turn signals. When I turn on my headlights, this ring turns white to blend more into my headlights (kinda light the old school BMWs) but switches back as I use my turn signals to a flashing amber halo.

 

I found out through some research that purple degreaser can remove some but not all chrome plated plastic. I choice to use Zep but other brands work too. I used a few gallons in a large tub to soak the headlight surrounds, factory turn signal buckets, and the projector surrounds to remove the chrome so that I could have them painted. The pictures below of the items in black are exactly how they came out of the purple degreaser bath after a period of time. Projector surrounds came out with not extra work and the same with the turn signal buckets but the headlight surrounds took much longer and I had to scrub them with a brush but still an easy process.

 

I had the headlight surrounds painted a semi-gloss black and the projector surrounds painted a custom red/orange blend that my body shop Rite-Co Collision Center help me create.

 

Pictures of the Bi-Xenon Morimoto mini D2S projectors with the "demon eye" LED mounted on their brackets. This will give that subtle appearance of a red glow from the project lens.

Some pictures of the reflective headlight bucket that I had to modify the headlight bulb surround with a sanding bit of a Dremel, so the project bulb alignment washer would sit flush and level. I also drilled a hole in this headlight bucket for wires to be ran through and use a rubber grommet.

 

Pictures of the custom ABS black rings that I made from scratch to hold the switchback LED rings in place to the headlight project shrouds. I attached these with the Gorilla glue that I listed above.

 

Assembly time. I used a brand new set of headlight replacement clear plastic lens that I bought off the internet from AliExpress for around $100 shipped. I think was a great price and seem to fit and look just like the original ones. These come from over seas .... so they do take some time to receive but worth it.
