Liking the "spayed myself" comment haha. My wife and I met later in life, neither of us had children prior and that window closed long ago for us as a couple..we can always adopt worst case.

But yeah being an uncle is cool, my nephew is 17 and still thinks I walk on water.

No real stock answer here. Maybe they're younger and it's not a realistic option at this age.

Hell, my wife's sister and her husband were together almost 20 years and they met in her 30's his 40's. Still had the house, cars, etc..just never was important to either of them. They did it eventually, I think what prompted it was he was ill and in an induced coma for several days shortly after being brought to the hospital so he hadn't had time to sign paperwork for her to make his decisions. Fortunately his parents live close by and did it, but it definitely gave them something to think about.

 

Talk about it and keep it simple..wins. Same thing my wife and I did long ago.

We ended up just flying to Vegas for the wedding. Were going to have a party that summer which never happened b/c my mother in law's health declined. But it's good.

I'll say I get away with a lot of happy horseshit, even more than some friends of mine who are just dating other people. I get to go to a lot of concerts, mostly by myself and she's happy I don't try to make her go to bands she hates.

To a degree it's not our own money, as in we pay the mortgage and such jointly. But I get my fun money too. My second job pays the car payment, which presently is her vehicle but was mine prior since we stagger them to try and avoid having 2 simultaneously.

No kids for us though, but we have 4 cats.

I got deactivated several years ago. So it's no longer a live-fire exercise for me. We had kids a little later in life. So getting that done took all the worry out of any surprises. Makes intimacy carefree and relaxed.

Yep. If you look at the picture hanging on my garage wall you will see two 67 Mustang convertibles:


I owned the white one on the right and my older brother owned the red one on the left. The red one had all the upgrades I wanted on my plain white one. About 29 years ago, my brother was ready to sell the red one at the same time I felt the need to make a decision about my girlfriend of 4 years. The red one would cost me about what my white one was worth plus about two months salary which, according to a popular Southern Comfort ad at that time, is how much to spend on a ring. Notice the ad in the lower right hand corner and also shown here:

My girlfriend became my fiancé. The white one was upgraded over time. I eventually sold it after owning it for 13 years to help with the down payment on our nice home. After the kids grew up, I bought the weekend warrior Tacoma seen below in my signature. This worked for me and in a few weeks we will be celebrating our 27th anniversary.

 

I just read part of this thread to my gf and she said OP sounds like a douche bag for dating her for 8 years. I told her that she doesnt know the dynamic of his relationship and that she’d be lucky to get 2:1 (truck parts to ring)

 

This is basically how I feel about kids and cats. Cute to entertain for a couple hours and give right back to their owner... parents...

 

I always buy my wife gifts that are carbon based - not diamonds, but carbon fiber road bikes, mountain bikes, SUP paddles. LOL. Coming up on 28 years.

Now this thread has to keep going until Friday, then it will really get good!
