    You guys are toxic as fuck. If OP really loves his GF and can actually see a future with her (he's been with her for 8 years, come on), and he knows what she wants in order to show that commitment, he knows what the answer to this question is.

    If you're in a place where money is tight and the money is really split between the truck parts and the ring, the answer is the ring. Steel rusts but diamonds last forever. You can buy more truck parts in 5 years, but I doubt she will last 5 years if you don't put a ring on it.

    Couldn’t agree more. She doesn’t want a big giant ring, so I got that going for me.

    My aunt has a massive ring and it just annoys everyone, I can’t even imagine how much it cost.

    I told my girlfriend that there are 3 ways to buy a ring. A: go ring shopping and get whatever the girl wants. B: just wing it and buy something: or C: (what I am going to do) buy a $5 ring and use that for a proposal and then go buy something that works for both people involved.
