Who knows which wire is positive and which one is negative on the clip that goes into the factory speaker? Also what exact type of wire should I be connecting to extend the lines? I know nothing about car audio. I want to hardwire my new 6x9's with the custom brackets I made. Can I use regular butt connectors and spade connectors for the installation?

If u have the stock separate tweeters and dont want to run them, the signal needs to be intercepted because toyota has the circuit running to the tweeter then down to the larger driver.

Make sure u have enough room between the surround and the plastic speaker grill integrated into the door panel.

I had to massage things out when I did install, but it worked.

Just buy a spool of 18 gauge speaker wire at Walmart or any auto parts store to extend the factory speaker wires. One wire is a solid color and the other usually has a white stripe. I usually use the striped wire for negative(-) and solid for positive(+) when connecting to the factory wires and your 6x9s. Spade connectors at the 6x9s make the install easier but the connectors at the wire connections optional. I usually just tied them together and use electrical tape.

Thanks for all the help guys! I will do this today and let you know how it went. Nice write-up justus, i have to find my dremel now, or maybe i can angle a jigsaw in there.. lol

The adapters i made out of my old 6x9 boxes, i just cut the top out and it's the same thickness as the plastic mount. I may consider re-using the old ones though since i saw your DIY topic!

edit: Would t-taps work for tapping into the wire or would it be better to use butt connectors?

It was a fun lil project. U may have zero issues with ur choice. Try it first.

I just didn't want to buy a bracket, needed a little project, and wouldn't accept "this model will not fit your vehicle".... The fact that adaptors were available for other 6x9 models just made me want to do this even more.

All I bought were the speakers thankfully.... Everything else was in the garage.

As for connections, the choice is yours..... I used spade connectors to the driver to keep any future disassembling simple. All other connections were soldered, heat shrinked and taped.

I'll run new thicker wire and solder the connections to the driver later when I install my amp.

I bought some 12 gauge "outdoor lighting wire" used to connect accent lighting along your driveway or backyard. I plan to use most of it for my house speakers, then use the rest for the trucks speakers.

Why did I buy this wire?

Unlike most speaker wire now days this is actually pure copper.... Almost all speaker wire out there Thats not true audiophile grade is copper coated alloys and the back of a knife or key will scrape off the copper coating to reveal a silver colored wire. Monster from what I have seen has been coated, as well as rca, acoustic research, and many other brands even tho they will say on the label proudly and in large print "pure oxygen free copper".

Why pay the premium for false advertising

I ended up re-using the female spade connectors that were used in the old 6x9 with the wires coming off. I didn't even have to buy wire and it made the job much easier. First side took about an hour, second side took about 30 minutes. Thanks to your DIY it made it so much easier for me. Also didn't have to notch the corners for screws to go through, I just pre drilled a small hole lined up with a self tappers. My tweeters sound ass now.. lol did you replace yours or completely remove them? Do you know if the rears are a similar process to replace?

I hijacked the signal BEFORE the factory tweeters so they do not work..... Just my preference tho. I figured the 5 way 6x9 should be good enough

Rears I actually got free adapters from crutchfield but I also have an access cab.
