Ok, I used to live in Las Vegas. Been in Washington State now for about 30 years. Great place to live, if you like rain. It took me a few years to get climatized from Vegas.
With a 50K income you should look in the Tacoma Area. The home prices, even with the drop in home sales will limit you a bit. Homes in the Tacoma area are probably in the mid 250K range and up.

As to jobs, I recently left a management position for the company to return as a lead Quality Inspector for Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company.

With your background you could probably get on with Boeing as an engineer. I would suggest you check online at Boeing.com for positions. We are in a hiring mode right now. One thing to understand about Boeing though is that it's cyclic. Up for a 5-8 years like we are currently doing and then a downward cycle with layoff's. Put aside some money as unless you have a top notch resume you will probably get caught in that cycle. On the plus side, starting salaries (DOE) usually begin in the 50-60K. Even in the hourly ranks about the lowest entry job can easily pay in the 35-45K range. Tons of overtime if you like the work and extra money. Very easy for a senior employee in the hourly ranks (someone like me) with no significant education to easily make well over 100K a year.

Just remember, your tan won't get darker up here. That's rust. Good luck. Ken
