I want to tap into the power plug on the back of the rear view mirror to power my dash cam and radar detector. Anyone done this? Advice on which adapters are best?

    Pics of any cool installs?

    Thanks

I don't know if there is an adapter. But I can tell you that there are 2 fuse that go to it.
A 7.5A and a 10A. I'd see what the Cam and Detector pull, then go from there.

Nice. That should make life easier.
Just need to be sure both don't draw more power than the fuse.

I did a combo of tapping into the mirror connector using a pin-connector harness and then ran a USB power source converter that I spliced (t-soldered) to the mirror wire under the overhead cluster. So, I have my radar detector and dash camp getting power at the top with no wires hanging down. One thing to note, there is a constant power wire and a switched power wire. I went from switched to constant for my dash cam after a break-in. Some USB converters will automatically switch-off once it detects low-voltage.

Hell - I've got a dongar tap sitting around here. I used it for a bit and then went a different direction. DM an address and I'll see what it costs to ship. All yours. Just Zelle me the shipping when you get it.

I also used the Dongar adapter for my dash cam. It does not provide constant power. It works perfectly when the truck is on, but when you park and leave the truck, you are relying on the dash cam internal power for parking recording. Maybe others have different experiences? Mine is an N300

You only get so much power from that adapter/power source. I got a new dash cam to try out and it wasn't working from that adapter, had to use the 12v plug it came with to keep it powered on.

So, I stuck with my old small dashcam that works from that power source. Something to keep in mind..

If you get a chance to take a pic I'd like to check out how you did radar detector. I'm using the Radenso Pro M and still waiting on the Theia. The peaceful silence of the Radenso is worth the cost. I was die hard Escort for decades, even had a LIVE subscription and the jammers, but not even their top of the line units now have filters as good as Radenso to block out all of the false alerts from collision avoidance systems, etc. Man all the false alerts from the R3 would drive me crazy, lol! One thing I am a little worried about is mounting it too close to the top and to the mirror that could block some of the signal.

Installed easily and works fine; however it provides power only when the truck is running (or in "ON" mode). No power when in "ACC" mode. Because it takes a bit of time to transfer video to my phone I can't see sitting there with lights, fan, etc draining my battery, or worse sitting there idling until the transfer is done. In hindsight, I should have run wires to the fuse box. May end up doing this anyway.

Sorry forgot about this , just sent the truck in to the shop today to get some work done, so I’ll get some pics when it’s back. The R3 isn’t bad around where I live because literally not a single cop shoots K or X band so I can just turn them off. KA band NEVER has false alerts for me so I don’t see the need to spend more than $300. Might have to get the new R9 with jammers for my S7 tho
