Correct, anyone can make the best situation terrible, as well as make a bad situation good. But to allude to me having a shity attitude is completely incorrect and assuming. I love California for what it has to offer, the people not so much, especially compared to elsewhere.

I never said you personally have a shitty attitude, I was just making a general statement! But with that kind of reply, one would be suspicious that you do in fact have a bit of chip on your shoulder or a guilty conscience. Relax!

Cool. And you can figure out exactly what house it is by the silver TRD Sport 4x4 sitting outside. Just don't bring a shitty attitude!

How so? I lived in Irvine all my life before moving to Vegas for six years and now I'm in SB. I haven't been to Irvine in a few years, so things may have changed since.

I should rephrase that. I personally thought Irvine sucked, but others may like it. It's just bland and boring. Lots of hotels and business parks, etc. It was probably my least favorite part of Southern California/Orange County. If I was going to live in Southern California that wouldn't be my first choice.

Don't worry, I'll keep my shity attitude down here. At least for the next few months.

say what you will but I didn't like my time in CA. I've spent 6 years there, all of which in the Bay Area and I found it too crowded, too expensive with horrible traffic with even worse drivers. It just depressed me. I do like the Shasta's and the more northern part of California (by Oregon).

Things change in California, sometimes quickly and other times confusingly. I lived for most of my childhood in and around LALA-Land, starting in West LA and then OC and then the West San Fernando valley. Aside from 5 years in Alaska (Spenard to be exact), I called that loony bin home from birth till shortly after graduating high school.

The house my parents sold in 1979 for about $70k is currently valued at more than $600k. From what I can tell little has changed to the outside of the house yet it's seemingly worth 9x more today. And if my high school is any indicator, the neighborhood isn't what it used to be. On a recent visit, it was apparent that the school now has metal bars on both the outside and inside of many windows. Can't tell if the place is a school or a prison anymore...

Once upon a time I happily called Cali home but the more I see of it the more I'm glad that it's not my home any more.

Yeah. This is exactly what I was talking about on the other thread. Plenty of people with 8 figure net worth, own Tacomas. It was the Harley vs Tacoma demographic thread :)

I went to undergrad and grad school in Nor Cal (Bay area). LOVED it. I HATE LA, sadly I am still stuck here. Shasta is gorgeous. But what would I do for a living in Shasta? If I could do it over again, I would live up in Grizzley Peak in Berkeley, or right of the 13 HWY up in the hills... .

I have lived in the midwest, NE, San Diego, LA, Nor Cal, and Seattle. Nor Cal is the nicest and most educated people in all of CA. Would I want to live in San Jose? Not really. Not Milpitas either. But plenty of VERY nice areas in both East Bay, SF, and surrounding area. Excellent demographic. Very educated, open mined, nice people.

That said, in SW USA, I would love to live in Alpharetta, GA. Spend $800k, get a 2 acre property, 10 car garage, heaven... aside from the racists..

So glad this turned into a thoughtful real estate thread... I agree with everyone, Cali sucks for your wallet, but I ain't leaving anytime soon. So Cal is all I've known my whole life and I love it, and my career has anchored me to a 50 mile or so area east of LA in SGV/LA County/OC. I can afford the Rancho Cucamonga area, but it's about 35 miles from my work... Meaning an hour and a half commute to and from each day. Prices drop the further east you go from LA, but the commute will kill you... And depending on the city, maybe your neighbors too!

Hopefully the housing market crashes around the election months and I'll be able to swoop on a house (by house I mean 1,000 square foot shack) for $350k. They're out there, but few and far between! I've been monitoring the market for a year or so and houses seem to be staying on the market longer, and prices are slowly but surely coming down.

The weather and scenery would be great and all, but if I woke up owning a house in Cali, I'd sell it and retire somewhere way less expensive. Somewhere in the sticks where I could hunt, hike, and maybe paddle.
