seems super high. I know its not a Tacoma but I just had my Mercedes E63 AMG done which has 16 spark plugs (two per cylinder) step colder plugs was 120 for all 16 and then my indy mechanic installed those and change my value cover gasket seals one on each side and changed the oil which is 9 quarts for 400 out the door. so 520 parts and labor.

“The tech” is on a paid hourly rate. He or she doesn’t pocket anything. If it’s a 5 minute job or a 12 hour job they still make about $+/-30 per h.

Man that's the worst part. Especially when your girl goes in the garage to "organize it" and now you cant find anything. For some reason there's a pipe cutter next to my impact sockets. Wire strippers in the same drawer as my wrenches. Screw drivers with my ratchets. I haven't seen my torque wrench in weeks.

Some are flat rate. They absolutely pocket the difference. They also can eat it if it goes poorly though.

You're 100% right on that. In most shops a job is billed for a certain amount of hrs. If the tech can do it in a shorter time he makes more money the more jobs he does in a shift.

Speaking of eating, a friend of mine was a tech at a Ford dealership. He would eat his lunch while working on a vehicle. Always said if he sat around just eating, he was not making any money.

Nope. Not at the dealership. Paid hourly. Between $26 to $32 depending on state and locality.

Name a dealership that contracts out a independent ASE certified mechanic…

We aren’t talking about a private shop.

I only read the first page of this thread and took a look at Amazon link to plugs.
Plug price varies wildly. Visit keepa dot com to get browser extension to give you price history chart right
on the amazon page. Same plugs were $12.28 in may and $23.36 in march and $15.50 now.
Buying blindly you will get screwed on amazon..especially for stuff like this. F Bezos.
    fyi, hope it helps.

Not sure why you started quoting me, then want to tell me what I can and can't talk about.

And if you’re cool with cutting your hands up. I have big hands so should’ve worn work gloves.

The dealer here in Denver quoted me like $750 lol

I didn’t say you couldn’t talk about it. I quoted you because Toyota mechanics at the dealership don’t pocket money. The end.

    Don’t start the victim mentally.

yeah, i use rock too but sometimes their shipping hurts.
for car parts i check them and Amazon and ebay (reputable seller only) for best price+shipping.
if close i go with rock.
main point: get the extension and see how bad amazon can suck.

Edit: and lately, surprisingly, Walmart online has won a few times. Their website sucked a few years ago but it is pretty good now and prices sometimes are great.
and if something goes wrong, just walk into the store for refund (if not sold by "partner"). just another place to check.

WTH! NO JUST NO! This is why they have you tube vids. Sockets and a ratchets are cheap if you don't already own a set. WOW! If you where my neighbor I would do it for $250.00 w/ parts.

The 2.7 is pretty easy to do the spark plugs.

Honestly it’s not unreasonable. That actual cost from a dealer for parts and shop supplies will be about $150 plus 2 hours labor and some tax, that seems pretty typical.

Not a victim, just confused on where I said anything about toyota techs.

And confused on you then dictating terms of conversation to me about a conversation I never had.

You're talking about one thing, I was talking about another. Its the way it goes.
