    Well here goes my confession.

I have been a troll more than once spewing my praise for Duratracs in a load range C. To be fair my 2007 tacoma had them and some of my work trucks had them and I had only one flat (nail) with lots of off road time.

However on my 2016 I installed these same tires and have had 6 flats, including two blown side walls, in 40,000 miles. Now i offroad alot, sometimes hundreds of miles on dirt roads a weekend. So I am hard on tires.

This last weekend was the final straw when I got two flats on the rear at the same time. Both rock punctures in the tread. With over 100 miles of dirt road before home I puckered up a little bit. Thank God I always carry two spares. I limped the dirt roads home and took my truck directly in for new tires.

The outcome was 235/85/16 Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx. In a 10 ply. I am done with 6 plys.

So I was wrong. 10 plys are required.

    /end rant

Always. It has saved me over the years. Even if not on my own truck. I've lent a spare to stranded friends before.

how's the noise on the ST maxx vs duratracs. I didn't like the hum of the GY. my KO2 are nice and quiet.

They are quieter than the Duratracs . However it is hard to compare a brand new tire with the 40k Duratracs as they get louder with age.

I'm not OP but have run both tires. About 15k miles on 6 ply Duratracs, and now about 3k miles on 10 ply ST Maxxs.

The duratracs were never quiet. Even brand new they howled at highway speeds. Got worse as the miles piled on. Other than that they were a very good tire in my experience.

ST Maxx's are much less noticeable at highway speeds. They haven't developed a howl yet, more of just a typical rumble or hum you would expect. I notice this during a broader range of speeds however. Black Sabbath above 30 volume fixes both tire noise issues.

Curios why you switched? Same reason as me? I love Duratracs in the snow/ice. I just can't justify the cost and inconvenience of 6 more flats over the next year or two.

They are kind of like bra sizes. A is less than D. Both in size, weight, volume of jiggle and fun factor.

Duras louder than ST's and ST's still noisy compared to KO2. Coming from having a set of all of them.
