Wow lol you guys drive these boats around?

Seriously though. I am heavily considering buying a TRD Sport 3rd gen and making my re-entry into the tacoma world. I have some questions.. and probably some bias towards the second generation.

Why is this truck so hilariously slow? Seriously. I drove a 6 Speed Manual (will not buy auto) and it shifted alright but i felt like i needed to floor it to make the truck go anywhere. It's dead on its face until 3,000 RPM (I wouldn't consider it "alive" at this point but I didn't feel it was appropriate to hot dog the dealerships truck with 13 miles on it).

The 2012 I previously owned was not "fast".. BUT I could hear the truck when it was running and when I gave foot input, the truck understood. Pic attached for cross-forum pollution :D

I see that forced induction for the 3.5 is nearing the market and the OVTune is coming along well... So there's that.

I wouldn't consider bordering needing performance modifications to be a selling point. I'm still in college so it'll stay semi stock for awhile.

I'm sure this dead horse has been kicked a trillion times from all of the die hard 07 owners who just can't move on.. so no need for a novel. Drop me an opinion, some common knowledge, or a link to a good thread please!

You no longer own the ‘12 right?

If you do, drive the wheels off of it, especially if it is paid off.

Yes, the 3.5 doesn’t wake up until above 3k. If you want power, get used to revving it out. The manual has been good to me for the most part, accumulator delete improves feel, sucky rev hang still exists. Brake caliper grease every 10-15k to keep the clutch pedal quiet. The usual..

Well I sold the 2012 because i got married a few months ago. It helped a lot. Things change financially.. fast sometimes. My wife is actually the one urging me to get another tacoma. The dodge avenger just isn't quite.. as good.

I intend on making numerous changes to it so if a little here and there makes it a much better experience, I'm okay with it. The 2012 wasn't perfect from the factory either.

I’d do as many test rides (take home if possible) as you can! Then decide if ya wanna get a late second gen again or a the third gen. Or maybe even a 4runner!

4-Runner is my thing. Thats my wife favorite thing on the road too so it wouldn't be a problem, particularly, if we ended up with on. I'm looking for a forced induction mid travel (LT?? maybe.) party pig to thrash around for fun on the road and the occasional trip. maybe camp in it like one of these overland boiz and get stickers for it.. I don't think the 4R likes that. More pre-runner... less soccer dad:rofl::rofl:

Do some research, peak torque is felt after something like 4500rpms. This is another bs post about 3rd gens having no power from someone who doesn't know what they're driving. OVTune will help, yes

Courtesy drove a buddies 3rd Gen OR recently and was surprised at how laggy the gas pedal was and how little power came when you.. used it.

Like legitimately I was shocked. It’s sure it has the power at higher RPM’s but damn.

Get a 5.7L Tundra then. Otherwise, wind it out. What do you expect? 30mpg, 0-60 times of 4.2s, all for $20K? You are keeping the dream alive lol. Buy it... or not.
