You're in your 20s and in college, you haven't seen much in the longrun.

Your best bet is to go back and consider a low mileage 2nd gen or slightly used 1st gen Tundra a d build that out. You're familiar with 2nd gen capabilities and a 1st gen Tundra has the low end grunt you might be looking for.

Even an older Landrcruiser might be more your style if you really think about it.

There's plenty of time later in life to have what you want that's "cool" and when you can afford it.

The 3.5 is vastly under-powered. I'd keep the 2012 and get a Tundra.

I've had all 3 gens. 2nd gen was quicker off the line but power dropped quick. 3rd gen (factory) needed more pedal to get moving but pulled stronger once moving. Toyota has done some weird ECU stuff with the trans and that has caused some of the issues at in 3.91 gears and double overdrive. OV tune and 4.88 gears really wake this truck up. No longer feels slow off the line even with 33's. It's been my favorite of all 3 gens.

It’s made if the EXTENT or bulk of my dislikes can be fixed for that, fine. It’s still not a turn ON. I don’t understand how you think that’s inconsistent

If you have to have a stick shift you're already weird.

Now you want info on a truck you don't like.
Then to top it all off you go to a 3rd Gen Tacoma forum and complain.

It all checks out. You're a troll. :typing:

Again, why buy a new truck that needs to be "fixed" for you to like it?

That’s a good point too. I may want a 4.7 for cheap. I’m not sure. I really just want a nice truck I can daily and have it second as a fun drive

I don't get it... my 3rd gen, which I've had for just over a year, is my first Tacoma, but I have owned just about every compact pick-up on the market. While I agree that the transmission (AT in mine) seems to have some 'unusual' gear ratios, the truck runs and drives better than any other truck I've owned. When I put my foot down, it will GO! Albeit, it doesn't get from 50 to 80 in a hurry, but I don't expect it to, in the same way that I wouldn't expect my Mustang to bring home two dozen 12' 2x4s and a couple of sheets of plywood. The fit & finish is excellent (again, it's a pick-up; I don't expect, nor want fine wood and top-grade leather), and I'm very pleased with the fuel economy. I would highly recommend a 3rd gen Tacoma; first and/or second gens may have been better, I don't know and can't comment. I DO know however that my 3rd gen is, IMO, the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Have you never driven a vehicle where low cost and low care was a priority? Lol

Tacoma owners and their feelings: the thread.

Thanks for the good responses guys I appreciate the opinion. I’m glad to hear you’re happy with the trucks and I imagine I will be too. Even if it needs some extra oomf, that’s fine.

If the 3.5 is slow, WTF does that make the 4.Blow? I've heard many spout off about the awesome torque of the 2nd Gen, and originally thought huh, it must be a beast. Then I had a couple chances to drive a couple...all I can say is there are some seriously delusional fucktards out there.

HHmMMmmm maybe get another 2nd gen? Or do what most guys on here do, buy a 3rd gen, make a bunch of threads complaining about it, then trade it for a 4runner.

so you can't afford it, but just come to stir shit up. All good, by the time you can get one they will have electric motors with unlimited torque.

Well I’m considering buying a 3rd generation. That’s the point of the thread lol. If I wanted a second generation, I would probably just buy one instead. I’m kinda keen on the 4Runner thing though but not because of the Tacoma. I just like both.
