Cool apples to oranges, top gun. I like fast trucks. What you said doesn’t apply.

OP, the truck won't set any track records, because that's not it's strength. It shines when doing truck stuff and is plenty powerful off road.

My advice, buy a truck if you use it for it's strengths. Don't buy it. If you're expecting it to be something it's not. Same reason I have multiple vehicles. Some perform off road, while others do not. Some go fast, while others do not.

I'm pretty sure its weight dependent. But for an idea, look at my build thread, with all that shit, going 70 on the speedo without calculating actual speed, it reads around 2300 with 255s(skinny 33s)

Fair enough. As long as it’s not like 3k at 70 mph I’m totally alright with that. I drove a Miata for a bit and it would do about 4200RPM on the interstate. Miserable.

Judging from the way this thread has unfolded you would assume OVT hasn’t sold anything because the trucks are so sick nasty right out of the box.

I hear bj Baldwin is even racing a bone stock sr5 in this years baja1000.
    Podium expected.

Dudes that Miata was a nightmare. Earplugs in, revs up high, and it was hot as hell with the AC on. Convertibles are NOT my thing... for sure.

My wife wants a 4R really bad. Ultimately we’re gonna get one for her and that’ll evolve into our family vehicle when we have babehs. I don’t expect performance out of that like I would a Tacoma. They’re crazy expensive though.

I’m happy it’s grown on you and I can’t really see myself without a Tacoma so I hope it grows on me if I go third gen route lolol

I can't understand why people keep saying that 4runners are so expensive. A crew cab off road is $34K+, 4runner off road is $36K and change. And you can put adults in the backseat of a 4runner.

Tacomas are awesome trucks. As far as performance, a stock 4runner can probably out-wheel a stock Tacoma. It would be close, but the 4runner has a shorter wheelbase, which I would consider an advantage in some situations.

I used to drive a manual 05 for a month years years ago, now that I own both 4.0 and 3.5. The 4.0 does feel better at low rpm. The 3.5 requires a bit higher RPM for the power but I do not slam the gas pedal on either vehicle when taking off. I drive them pretty gently. If I need to pass someone on the 4.0, simply just floor it and 9/10 time, it's enough. On the 3.5, putting it back to 3rd or 4th gear does the trick.

The more I drive the 3.5 the more love I have for it. The more I drive the 4.0, the more love I also have for it. 4.0 ~ at 19 mpg city while 3.5 ~ at 20.5 mpg. I love both vehicles.
If "fast" is really your concern, you shouldn't get either one.

yep, it's taken literally over 2.5 years of trial and error to come to terms with this motor. always been a NA fan. this one was awful with the factory tune's contrived muting. but it's slowly come alive with tuning and exhaust work, and it's actually becoming somewhat likeable over here. no more weird surging or dead pedals anymore either.

Not trying to sound like a douche. I can tell you how great my truck is but if you don’t feel the same then I’d stick with the second gen.

I came from a first gen with no ABS so it was a big improvement for me.
