I own a 4d short bed with the auto and 4 wheel drive. I love mine as it has been trouble free since I bought it in December.

I would advise you to try out the ECT button on the dash at some point and see the difference it makes. The truck is clearly tuned to be economical and drives like it for the first half throttle or so. ECT does away with this and lets the truck run like it should. Some have modded their trucks so it is always on, I use it primarily when towing, or horsing around.

I had a 2011 for six years and traded for a 2017- Some things I like some things I don't. I would probably not even notice the tranny of I hadn't read all the junk on here, after reading the stuff you start nit picking and looking for stuff. And that's the problem you can't pay attention to all the stuff on here. Go test drive it and run it up and down some hills. I still really like mine and would trade again- It looks great, rides great and I am loving the 22mpg.

I have been a 3rd gen owner for about 2 and a half months now. I have travelled across 4 provinces with zero issues. 4200 or so kilometres cost me about $450 which is unreal. When I purchased the truck they fixed the rear diff issue at time of pick up (thankfully as from reading on here some stories are bonkers with wait times). It can go fast. Most folks on here do not like to punch it though and I do not blame them. I am coming from a 2015 2.7 litre base model and I believe it is a huge huge improvement. Only downside is only guys have complimented my truck LOL ... go me?

Feels gutless on the low end. You have to floor it to feel like it will get going. Lot of quirks, annoyances and many are experiencing more serious issues with the truck. Almost 2 years and over 30k miles.... I would not buy again.

Look, in some ways you are right (just turn on the news), but saying this after a guy says he likes his truck comes across poorly. Besides, in the mid size truck market, Toyota is it. Gm always comes out hot, then GM lets their product wither on the vine and die. The diesel ZR2 is a nice shot, but it really doesn't make much sense, and the GM twins are terrible inside. Nissan, well it's old. I actually have nothing bad to say about it other than that as I actually like them. Honda? Well I said mid size trucks, so that's out. With Ford getting back in the game, we will see how that plays out.

I have 9000 miles on mine and its been absolutely perfect. Since things like the diff leak and transmission fluid being underfilled were covered by warranty I still went to get them checked out even though I didn't experience any problems with it. I bought my truck right before it started snowing and it was amazing in the snow I would put it in 4hi just for safety when I was commuting and I never had to worry about anything. The only thing I would maybe consider doing again if I were buying is getting a manual transmission and not cause I hate this transmission but cause not many trucks have em anymore and it would've been fun to experience while they still have it

i thought of the renewed Ford when i purchased my Tacoma. i figured, like you see with so many poor '16 reports, that the first run and maybe more could be when they work out the kinks. so i thought I'll need a truck while waiting... and now I'm in a MT Tacoma hopefully good until Ford discontinues the Ranger again.

I loved my Ranger, as did everyone who owned one I think. I'm hopeful they bring something amazing out. I'm out of the buying market for awhile, but competition drives progress and the better the Ford is, the better everything in the class will be. Heck, Jeep is working on a 300 HP 4 cylinder, people here rave about the 4 cylinder and it's got half that HP. If Ford can bring something better than the 200 HP 4 cyl. that GM puts in the twins, it does nothing but make the whole market better.

I have had three Tacomas, a 1995 (actually pre Tacoma with a mt), a 2015 and this 2017 and this is my favorite which says a lot as I liked my others. I also owned a 2012 FJ. I enjoy this 2017 truck and do not notice any loss of power either daily driving, passing or towing. I have a Casita travel trailer that I have pulled behind the FJ, the 2015 Tacoma and the 2017 Access cab. All were at's and this is my favorite truck, however I am old and drive the speed limit, (I do off-road while boondock camping/fossil hunting,) no more get to my destination as quick as possible and I enjoy the driving part of my trips much more than I did when younger. I enjoy not having a schedule and honestly chronic pain has taught me to listen to my body, when it says stop what your doing and recline I listen. I view reclining as a great opportunity to read so I do not mind stopping earlier than anticipated.
The negative data on these trucks made me nervous when I traded my 2015 DCLB but when I saw the 2017 access cab the dealer gave me a number, I chuckled at that and he talked me into writing down what I would pay difference and he chuckled at that but after two hours of them meeting and me not giving in they agreed, that about freaked me out because my number was two thousand less than their quote, I thought maybe there was something wrong with the truck and they unloaded it on me. I hope it keeps performing like it is because I have zero regrets at this point, it is actually driving better after a few months, knock on wood. I truly like this truck.

Don't know how old you are but that's been happening since the 1970's across the full spectrum. My counterpoint would simply be every brand and competitor uses the same marketing techniques. Take Jeep for example. That puts the Tacoma on a level playing field still. I totally agree with you as far as the dumbing of America and really the rest of the world too. It's amazing really lol.

I'm approaching my 25k service soon, no issues of any kind OP.
Both engine & transmission are awesome, all systems are go. If I had to do it all over again, I would not choose any different, no remorse no regrets, just an awesome great truck for the buck!

The truck did have one fault or issue, a factory defect which I took care of about a year ago, the CPS sensor.
I believe it has been taken care of with a new upgraded version or will be once all the offending parts have been replaced.
There is a recall for the rear diff for a leak which is nothing more than loose fasteners at the plant, nothing to be so exited about.

All the negativity and issues expressed here by a vocal few is totally puzzling to me, as the truck has been nothing short of great in all areas.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

I am in my mid 40s. I have been watching it for a while. I am ex-military intel. I am currently an engineer/product family developer. I work for a global, big box retail supplier, and have lived on both sides of the big pond. Like you, I have seen a lot. I say this with humble sorrow, we are screwed. It's a matter of time. Maybe one or two more generations.
