No offense but Toyota has released 2 updates to the "awesome" transmission with a 3rd update being rumored.

I like my truck but would opt for the manual transmission if I had to do it again.

Have had mine for 18 months and 20k miles with no reliability issues. Is it perfect, no but it does everything I need it to do and I'm happy driving it.

Nose is a little long to be real comfortable with where the front bumper is.

Not a fan of the rubberized door trim.

Should only have 1 OD gear instead of 2. I understand why they did it but not a fan, usually negate 6th gear on undulating terrain.

Navigation route choice can be frustrating, would be nice to be able to change routes without having to stop.

Option for a manual in the Longbed would be nice.

Still susceptible to taco lean and squeaky leafsprings.

Hate that the steering wheel volume control is left/right instead of up/down.

Cloth seats wear faster than expected so I'd recommend seat covers.

Radio dials are too short to the touch screen, kept changing display everytime I turned a knob.

Would be nice if all door handles opened when you grabbed one, not just the driver handle.

Those are the little niggling things that bother me that could be better but by no means does it keep me out of the truck. I still love it better than the rest of the trucks out there.

If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't buy a new Toyota Tacoma.

Too many bullshit issues with no meaningful response from Toyota.

I'm trying to unload mine now.

The truck is awesome. I had a few quirks. Nothing really major. I've gotten used to the transmission. The engine I think is awesome. It's like having two engines. First 3000 rpms is fuel saving take your time and enjoy. But, after 3000 rpms. Look out. The truck takes off. Technology is ever changing. We're Creatures of habit and hate change. People will complain about things. It's just how you look at it. It's a blast of a truck. It has great features. I love that the trucks now have the sunroof. I've owned three Tacomas. 2003 TRD off road 4x4 DC, 2005 TRD Sport 4x4 DC and now 2016 TRD off road 4x4 DC. They have all been awesome trucks. All different in there own ways. Dont worry. Get what you want and have fun!! oh yeah... one thing. The really biggest problem I have with my truck is the aftermarket parts. I just keep buying them. It's an addiction. A fun addiction.

To note. I've also owned two Tundras (2012 and 2014) and Two 4Runners (both 2010's). The 4Runners were very FUN. Probably the most comfort creature off road vehicle. If I didn't need the box. I wouldn't hesitate one second to going back to one of those. The tundras are huge and have GOBBS of power. And suck the money out of your wallet at the gas station.

I've only had mine a little shy of 2 months, but totally happy with it so far. Can't think of a single issue or problem. Mine is the much maligned AT, and it seems like, well, an AT to me. Truck has decent acceleration when I give it a little gas. Seems to me that people these days think a vehicle is supposed to take off like a rocket when you touch the gas. I prefer being able to choose with my right foot.

Only thing I have not done with mine in the short time I've had it is tow. I don't tow very often anyway, and when I do it's not something real heavy, so I anticipate no problem on that score.

I've had 5 Toyota trucks in over 30 years of continuous ownership; 86, 91, 99 and 04 before I bought the 16 OR longbed which has been my favorite but as I said before, they're certainly not perfect.

The 3rd generation is better than the 2nd. Much better fuel economy. Some of the problems people have with the new transmission is due to driver error with the gas pedal. People drive the truck for a while and they think the transmission has learned the driver but the driver has learned how to feather the throttle. I did have an update on my 2016's transmission to fix a delayed reverse to drive on cold starts.

My 3rd Gen Sport DCSB 6spd MT has been flawless at ~11,8xx miles. Now howls, leaks, drips, no recalls, etc.. Fun to drive, easy to tow, comfortable for my little family. I highly recommend this truck! Of course I never drove the AT, so I am clueless about the shift happy tranny folks talk about.

Its really only shift happy in cruise control or hilly terrain or a high headwind when in D, running in S4 or S5 fixes that. Recommend the OP learn about how S mode works before taking his test drives.

No offense taken, my awesome truck hasn't had any A/T updates since I've had it for the past 18 months, no need for one, and I'm not about to have them do one just because a few ppl here say I need it lol!

For the vast overwhelming majority of ppl out there that don't even know TW exist, it's an awesome truck too.

And I never even had my ATF fluid checked! Even with all the panic, gloom & doom sayings on here in the beginning, my A/T runs and shifts like a hot knife thru butter, Imagine that! And btw, ask yourself...Where did all that nonsense go?? lol!

But I just don't pay attention to the show with all the antics and rhetoric that goes on here.

That's not to say this is all b/s here, quite the contrary. This is one, if not the best source of accurate and updated info on the Tacoma, but there are some individuals spreading trash all over the place just because they had a problem or some type agenda.
You just have to know how to filter thru all the trash info and get the facts and recognized them from the likes of someone like @hiPSI,

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

I love my TRD OR 4x4 manual. This is my first tacoma and first truck so i didnt have any baseline expectations really. I dont expect it to drive like my old WRX. Power is there if you need it. Truck drives smooth. Interior is very nice and updated as well. I am very happy with my purchase.

Yes if I had to buy a Turd gen it would be a man trans. My next truck will probably be a full size. Unless they make some significant updates to refine the Tundra I'll be looking at GM or Ford. My last GM never had me in the dealership once over 40k miles and 3 years.

BS. I've owned quite a few GM vehicles and they have been fine. If I was looking at a full size, that's probably where I'd land.

Last 2 I sold were older than 15 years and had more than 220,000 miles.

Well us poor, dumb, Tacoma Buyers just don't know the difference in a good versus bad truck.lol Someone has a huge inflated ego and thinks they are smarter than the rest of humanity. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Surely Mr. Ego should teach us all how we can make better buying decisions. lol
