Curious why you wouldn't want ABS? Like maybe just for screwing around offroad it'd be nice, but I can't think of any reason ABS isn't a good thing when driving on city streets, highways, etc.

Well, i live in a harsh enviro . trust me . in the snow and ice on highways and road ,you want to have the brakes under your control. my old runners both have the ABS disabled, or i would have slide thru a stop or missed a turn off. it just works better if you can feel what the tires and brakes are doing . and can pump and release at will ..

Live on the coast of Alaska. Freeze/thaw 6-7 months out of the year. Agree to disagree.
You’re never going to be able to pulse the brakes as fast manually as ABS does, but if it’s what you want and are used to, more power to you!

I'm gonna go with the science and the folks who have proven that you can't beat ABS on ice, and that disabling on snow only allows the driver to beat ABS under EXTREMELY limited circumstances (such as having deep snow with no underlaying compressed snow/ice). On gravel or sand, absolutely disabling ABS leads to lowering stopping distances by piling up material in front of the tire. That doesn't happen on ice. Computer's ability to pump the brakes a hundred times faster than a human, yeah, I'm glad to have that computer lol.

And as @musicisevil said, go ahead and do what you like, but don't be surprised when no one believes you that you can outperform ABS. More fun to drive in some situations? sure. and have fun.

In all seriousness though, I do agree that the older ABS systems SUCKED compared to new ones. My 96 chevy would vibrate and pump my foot up and down ridiculously. Could scare the crap outta you. Now days, you barely feel a vibration in the pedal in comparison. The traction control systems and the noises they make bother me more than anything else.

Keep in mind that if you slide into something with an intentionally disabled braking system, the insurance could refuse to pay you.

I agree, driving in snow and ice my tacoma ABS system is absolutely terrible. I prefer having the truck in 4H and just using the brakes manually.
Sometimes you need to drag the tires to build up a wedge of snow forward of the contact patch in order to decelerate faster. If you have abs on, it's not possible to build a wedge.
Also I feel like when ABS DEactivates after having been on, the pedal feel is completely mushy and hard to control for several actuations afterwards.

There is A LOT of stuff tied to the ABS system. Traction control, Stability Control, Adaptive Cruise, etc. Gonna have quite a lot of errors to ignore.

I live in Canada and rarely hear my abs go off.

dedicated winter tires are a must.
