Personally I like my vehicles to be as basic as possible. If I were to buy one I'd choose the most basic TRD O/R model with tow-package:
    No Premium package,
8" screen (I don't want an I-pad on my dash),
    No leather,
Don't need an electronically assisted tailgate.
    Don't need heated seats.

Having said that, I am interested in that spray-on bedliner.

And even though it’s illegal as fuck, we will lower your APR by 0.5% if you choose this package.

Improved as in better fuel economy. No. Improved as in you can tow more. No. Improved as in you get more features for less money. No. Improved as a simpler mechanical and electrical design. No. Improved as more of a rolling smartphone or tablet. Yes, if that floats your boat I guess. No “improvement” on what used to be considered improvements.

It should be able to tow better though, and the ride will be nicer too. But yeah, while the new platform does have a lot of “improvements”, however once you dissect it…not really.

Toyota has been horrible on how they bundle their packages for years now, would much prefer more a la carte style. With how most everything is by computer and built by robots now, you would think that would be possible in this day and age of nearly endless choices and conveniences.

The wild part is Toyota pioneered just in time production and advertises it as a hyper efficient way of building the exact car a customer wants. In reality they make production decisions based on awful "market research" driven by artificial supply and demand. Just let me order what I want ffs.

Yep. Since everything is allocated, they build how they want, not what the customer wants.

Remember reading an article with Mike Sweers when the started building the 2nd Gen Tundra, said his biggest surprise was customers coming from the Big 3 wanting custom orders. So what does that tell ya, that was years ago and they have gotten even worse with the packages.

As these trucks get more and more expensive it would be nice if you could actually order what you wanted. I can’t wait til the day when dealerships are gone and you just order exactly what you want online and it gets delivered to your door. There’s some talk about Amazon selling Hyundais.

That is the thing isn’t it? Costing more and not being able to get exactly what you want is kinda bullshit.

Was looking at the VW Atlas, high trim is pushing $60K…only a few color paint choices. Spending that amount of cash and the color choices were kind of lame.

Where I could go get a low trim Ram Truck and they have color choices out the wazoo and only $400 upcharge.

That's absolutely a Toyota thing not a dealership thing. Any domestic or European car can be ordered to spec. I ordered a Tremor and they didn't force me to add $1,500 in port installed accessories.

The US south-east regional distributor is notorious for adding options to EVERY vehicle. The cheapest 2024 Tacoma so far in my search is about $42,000. Nothing close to $32,995 is allocated to any dealer within 500 miles of me. As we know, no custom orders, Toyota knows best. No matter, I've accepted it, moved on, now looking for a 5 year old Tundra 5.7L 4WD Crewmax with under 80K miles. I'm in no rush, prices are falling. I'll get it for less than a new 2024 base Tacoma, which aren't being made yet, if ever.

I’m in the same region and this is annoying. I just want a base model, don’t need $5k in blingy options. Starting to look around at used 3rd gens, maybe prices on those will decrease after the new one is out.

I paid 43k OTD for my pretty much fully optioned 2020 OR DC 4x4. It would seem a fully optioned 2024 OR may be around ~60K, but again pricing isnt even officially released. All that other crap that was added on to the OP's "quote" is mostly useless IMO.

Have car and truck manufacturers gotten in trouble yet for deceptive advertising practices when they say a vehicle “starts” at a certain price, but they make it so it’s almost impossible to get one at that price?

When I wanted to get my SR Tacoma 4x4 UP I had to literally wait a few months because dealers were acting like they don’t exist even though every fleet around here has a few dozen.

Does anyone think Mike Sweers and the Toyota executives give a rats ass what anyone here thinks?

They obviously could care less what the distributors and dealers do.

Of course not, but the power tailgate was my idea. Not that even want a power tailgate, just more of a novelty and I'm sure other people had the same idea.

Obviously not, considering the choices we are given.

Have read a bunch of articles and watched interviews with him. He seems absolutely clueless about what the customer base wants and need.

People have been screaming for better fuel economy for decades, and again not this go around, sorry folks!
