I drive a stock 2.7L with heavy 32" load range E tires, stock gears, and enough camping/wheeling crap to to consistently put me over the payload capacity of the truck all over the Sierra Nevada and it's never NOT gotten me where I wanted to go, with the AC blasting. My other car is a Camaro w/ 350 swap so it's not like I don't know what a powerful car feels like. I will never understand the lack of power complaints from people who don't tow heavy loads.

More seriously, you could wait on the Chevy ZR2. With the diesel will have plenty of get up I would think

Yup. But a test drive and living with it for a year are too different to compare. During the test drive, it seemed like it could work. I admit I was a bit too hasty in signing the papers, though.

I guess we all have different ideas of "good enough". I don't want my vehicle to simply get me where I want to go. Would you agree that something like your truck plus the power of the Camaro would be ideal? I'm trying to avoid having two separate vehicles; I've spent my "youth" having two cars and it was always a pain. Once I moved to one vehicle that combined things I was looking for, I was happier.

@Z50king told me there's rumor of a super charger coming to market. It will come with complimentary chube steps and bull bars.

they're kind of stupid but with an MT you could get away with using a pedal commander, might give you a bit of what you're looking for?

This is why I have a sports car. I use it for going fast. I use my truck to haul things and enjoy the outdoors.

I have a sports car. It does not make me feel any more satisfied with a truck that lacks low end torque, shifts like crap and has unresponsive throttle.

I hear that zR2 is going to be competition for the Tacoma and I believe it will be. I love Tacomas but I'm not brand loyal. If a better truck comes out I'd switch in a heartbeat. I'd just have to rename myself for the ZR2 forum. Easy haha

The truck is plenty fast when you push the gas pedal, rev it up past 4000 rpm it accelerates. Maybe if you only owned sports cars, or this is your first car then I could see this truck feeling slow. But I drove cars in the 90's like my 90 hp honda civic, a 4.3 V6 Chevy 1500, and a 2003 Nissan Frontier with 180 Hp these things would be lucky to break 20 second in the 1/4 mile. This truck is a race car compared to those vehicle and that frontier got 15 mpg.

Bingo. I have my funcar for go-fast and carve-corners driving. I have my truck for trucky sorts of stuff. A fullsize truck wouldn't work for my needs.

Yeah, that's the part I don't get. This motor does fine when you spin it up.

Quit pretending the pedal is a fragile eggshell and mash your foot down on it. Let the motor sing.

Scoot your seat forward a bit if you can't reach the pedal well enough.

If that's still not good enough, sell it and move on. Test drive your next truck a bit more.

My friend has the Tundra. Gas mileage (real world) is god awful, 13 or something. And the thing is stupid big. The Tundra, as far as a full size, is way behind the curve compared to Ford and Dodge when it comes to full size IMO.

Haha yeah I'm loyal so far because they're the best. But I've owned and driven them all. Off road too in pretty wild places in Canadas north. All I'm saying is that I have an open mind.

Yeah, the difference is huge. We have a 2014 Maxima and a 2017 Tacoma Limited. Both have 3.5 liter engines, both have transmissions that leave something to be desired.. the Maxima has a CVT. OTOH, when you step on the gas (premium gas) in the Maxima it really takes off.
