    That's a manual 2016 v6. It's the throttle and transmission programming altering people's opinions.

I have to admit I do often miss my 4.0 but I don't miss the terrible mpg from it. Doesn't seem like the folks at the desks are listening to the folks making sure they get paychecks.

What happened to Toyota and that racing spirit? Toyota is starting to sound more and more like Take Off Your Oversized Tires Asshole.

No I think many people Including myself would expect it to have the response that the 2nd gen has at bare minimum. Shouldnt have to floor a vehicle to get it moving faster than a fiesta. Have you ever tried passing on a grade? No one is expecting a dragster smfh. But a decent amount of get up and go is safer in many situations. Power like a gun its better to have it and not need it rather than not have it and need it.

The Si though... I miss mine actually. Thing was quick. VTEC bro! Accelerated faster than my 16 Sport that's for sure.

I don't have to floor mine to get power. Yes it is different from the 2nd gen but mine runs fine.

    Hello everyone!

I have noticed quite a bit of traffic on our site coming from this thread on here... Had no idea there was this big of a community and interest in power for the 2016 Tacoma 2GR FKS. I wanted to create a quick account and offer up a few answers to questions we keep getting.

I'd like to answer a few questions we keep getting.
    1. Yes we are working on a ECU and Transmission tune for the Tacoma (auto trans)
    2. The engine is underpowered, on purpose. Toyotas all new design with their stock calibrations (tunes) is to create a "flat torque curve" ..at the cost of real torque.
    3. The stock tune limits power via limiting throttle (among other things) to achieve this. Imagine you floor it at 2000 RPM, the ECU achieves it's internal desired torque number (a made up value) at 45% throttle. Well..that's all you get. No matter how hard you push the pedal.
    4. This is being implemented in many of Toyotas new vehicles, we have seen it in the IS200T for example, where the car maxes throttle at 30%.
    5. We cannot go into details yet about power figures, tunes, etc. We expect release this summer or sooner.
    6. We are doing a lot of research and development on this because a variant is expected to be used in the new twin turbo v6 lexus IS.

if the forum allows, we can discuss further and begin to answer some of your questions regarding tuning the 2GR FKS engine.

    thanks!

If the forum doesn't allow it then tell us where to go we will follow. I will be happy to go to another forum where they would allow this discussion. Because if TW has a problem with a discussion about gaining more response I am not looking back. To think the first gen is faster is almost unbelievable. SMFH!!!! I am pretty sure I am not the only one looking for increased power.

By chance will you also be working on a Tune for the Manual Trans too?

@OVTune +1 for 2gr manual. You also might want to start your own thread to keep everything consolidated. We love you.

You have descended into the 3rd gen forum like a fairy godmother about to wave her wand over the 3.5 pumpkin :D

If you make this engine/trans perform, you will not be able to keep up with the initial orders

Was the Tacoma ever really a high performance "racing spirit" vehicle? The 1st gens we're just solid reliable vehicles that could go anywhere.the 2nd gens we're more of the same in a bigger form factor.

Maybe I'm missing the mark but the Tacoma made it's name by being a bulletproof, reliable, useful, small pickup with a kick ass 4x4 ability.

I'm not sure Toyota has deviated from this approach (I mean aside from the botched launch with tranny issues, vibes, and howls). But they arent known for putting out powerhouse engines in these trucks. It's not a Raptor.

Would a very mild semiautomatic wet NOS system be a realistic option? Seriously. Assuming it is set up on the conservative side with all the safety stuff and parameters. i.e. ~40hp, soft "Hit", 2,500-5,000 rpm window, WOT and easy access push button on the column (Backside of cruise control?) I could see it a making a big difference when merging on the highway, passing or going up a big hill.

Below generic system runs ~$700-800, so figure ~$1k installed with all the redundant safety switches etc. How much a 10lb bottle costs to fill and how long it would last? And would it be worth ~$1k?
