I'm a new owner of a 2015 Tacoma Prerunner SR5 with a I4 2.7 motor . Yesterday I had my oil changed under Tacomacare at my local dealer. It was changed with complete synthetic as called for in owners manual. He said he see me back in the recommended 5000 miles - there in lies my question - 2016 2.7 recommendations are oil change at 10,000 and 2015 2.7 are at 5000 miles. I thought they were the same motor why the oil change frequency difference? Thanks

Color matched door handles, Weathertech floor liners, bed mat, Durafit seat covers, tailgate clamp, 2016 TRD Sport 17" wheels with Yokohama Geolander AT tires , Toyota exhaust tip, Toyota/Yakima bike rail mount, Toyota wheel locks, Toyota hitch cover, Redline hood struts, unifilter on air pump.
A lot of service writers are paid commission, so I don't listen to them, however, I changed mine at 5000 or six months regardless. Probably overkill, because I run full synthetic.

    2016-2017 2.7 is a different 2.7.

    Dual VVTI or something.

I change mine at 5k miles also on my 2015, even though the other 0W-20 Toyota models call for a 10k service.

I run synthetic in my V6. I still change it every 5K though. Though i did miss (too lazy) an oil change recently, so the last change was at 9k.

I use full synthetic in my 2008 2.7L (same as yours), and I go every 5000 miles. I too realize this is probably overkill but it's $30 and takes 15 minutes...I have no problem overkilling it. What's $30 when I spent $750 on gasoline in that same period.

In my opinion, they increase the interval to cheat the "cost of ownership" numbers down. Is 10k OK on synthetic oil in a modern car? Probably, but I'm going to change it every 5k anyway. A few hundred dollars over the life of the vehicle is not worth the risk to me.

    I change my 2016 SR 4x4 4 cylinder 2.7 every 5,000 Miles with Mobile 1 Synthetic 0W-20 and a OEM Toyota 90915-YZZG2 Filter!

Guess I'm against the grain. I go 10,000 on M1 full synthetic with my 2014, always check it at 5k, it's never been low. Just make sure you use a filter capable of 10k also, I use the Bosch extended life.
