Anyone running the icon 1.5 AAL on there gen3? How does it ride? How much lift do get out of them?
I’m trying to choose between ome full pack and the icon AAL. Any suggestions?? Thanks

I went with the WHEELERS AL22 add a leaf for my truck. I was considering a pack vs a single, but upon talking to the folks at WHEELERS went with the single based on their suggestion that I really wanted a constant load spring with all the shit I naturally have in my truck. I have not lifted my truck, but I have a shell, bed mat, tool case and a pile of useless crap I always keep back there so what I was looking for was constant load support. A pack is progressive so the lift is primarily through pack thickness then as you load the springs come into play more and more. A single simply puts in a constant more than a progressive. I tend to load pretty heavy, particularly when hunting and offroading so I also added SUMO springs to help when I really push the limits. As it sits with the AAL and shell etcc. the rearend sits right at 1.5 inches higher than my brothers identical DCSB OR that has the tonneau cover only. Very happy with how the truck drives. If you have no load, a single AAL may be too stiff for your liking, and a progressive will offer a softer ride. My profile pic shows truck at a weird angle but it is unloaded in this pic with exception of shell and tool box inside

Thanks mhornco for reply. I won’t be carrying much in the back that is why I’m leaning towards the icon 1.5 AAL progressive. I believe that’ll give me what I’m looking for.

I have heard a lot of rumbling here that the HS unit is a private labeled Icon. I've had both and found no difference in quality / ride between the two.

I'm without the OL as I don't have a shell. I ran a shell for about 3 months this summer and likely would have put the OL back in to give a small level of rate in my setup, but regardless, I'm pleased.

    Too few to list.
Just AAL would have a stiff ride on an empty bed especially on washboards, bumps, and dips. If you're just looking for lift and no constant load or towing, then an AAL will work fine though eventually it will sag due to Toyota's leaf pack. They're kinda flat and soft to begin with.

Progressive AAL is a little better but not much. It will be more compliant to bumps and dips but it's still attached to Toyota's leaf pack which is the real issue. Most require removal of the overloads but can be left in if you get longer u-bolts.

Bite the bullet and get the full leaf pack.

When I did my research looking for a good AAL I read that implication but also found a post from HS saying it's not. I just know they packed that thing like they were shipping a faberge egg.

Fair enough. I will stop propagating the rumor then. I never saw it as a dig on HS for the record, I saw it as a way to get a quality product for less than the Icon piece.

You aren't joking about the wrapping, however. I think it would have survived falling off a cliff.

I run a HS 3 leaf progressive AAL with overload on an empty bed. Think it rides and looks great. Do not like perfectly level or nose high trucks. 1” rake works out perfect for me.

Nope, HS and even Wheelers pack them like they are fragile.

I have the icon AAL, lifted my truck about 1.5 inches. Rides the same as stock from what I can tell. Sidenote the U bolts it comes with aren’t wide enough for the leaf springs.

So what you are saying is go with the OME full pack for a better ride over all.

Yes. You'll be happier in the long run. I did single AAL on one truck, then progressive on another, then changed out to full.

Went from 3rd Gen Taco to 3GT4R to 2nd Gen Taco and finally a V8 4GT4R.
I also went from the progressive leafs to full OME Heavy pack.

Adding just a little bit of weight on the progressive leafs made me sag. I had a tent and rack on at all times. I did not, however, keep the overload in.

I added the OME Heavy pack and have not looked back. I would easily encourage forking out an extra 200-250 bucks to get a whole leaf pack. That way if and when you add more weight to the truck you won't have to buy anything new.

Also the install of a full pack is less involved than taking the stock leafs apart and potentially having to deal with things that don’t fit correctly. A full pack will involve more heavy lifting though but only once each side! I ran Dakars on my last Tacoma and other than the occasional squeak they were great.

This. I had to saw the OEM leaf pack bracket off in order to install the ICON progressive pack. With a full leaf pack it is as simple as plug and play.

It would be quite upsetting if paying a shop to do the install and they run into issues that end up resulting in more labour costs, suddenly the AAL costs the same as a full pack.

Good point. I’m definitely going with the ome medium full pack. Now, do you guys recommend any brand of front coilovers and rear shocks. (Icon 2.5/2.0, bilstein 6112/5160, Fox 2.5/2.0) those are my 3 choices. Looking for a daily driver suspension (comfort). My goal is to do a 2.5/3” front lift and 2” in the rear. I will be running 17x8.5 -5/10 offset with 285/75/17’s. What do you guys think? Thanks

If you are only using this as a DD and looking for extra ride height I would highly consider looking into OME Nitrochargers just to keep costs as minimal as possible.
