Even with the overload left IN, their pin will NOT work. You would need another inch of leafs for the supplied pin to work or more.

Which is probabaly correct, I’m just suggesting to double check the orientation because if the passenger side was installed in the opposite direction, could this have possibly caused a change in height between passenger and driver side?

I would expect anyone to have installed both sides the same regardless.. just a thought

I bought one of these. Haven’t installed as of yet. Wondering how it works when also using shims to correct pinion angles. Anyone running both?

There was an actual recall, not a TSB, that covered the leaf packs from 2005-2011. Basically any of the 2+1 packs and certain 3+1 packs were replaced due to the possibility of the leaf breaking and rotating out of alignment and stabbing into the fuel tank. Your truck should qualify based on what leaf packs you look to have in the pictures posted.

The service department at the dealership ran my vin number and said it did not qualify, they were the ones who told me about the recall when I went in to buy new centering pins. They said it was strictly for the models years 05-10. But they ran my vin anyway and said it did not qualify for the new leaf pack replacement. Maybe there was a very select few 2011, idk but they said mine didn't qualify ‍♂️‍♂️

Interesting. There’s probably a manufacture date window it applies to then. My 2011 qualified and had it done.

For reference, here’s what the determination of good or bad springs is. If yours are the bad type you could try to see if they’ll work with you for the recall even if the computer says you’re not affected.

I ran into the same issue yesterday, all set to assemble, and wham, bolt too long, threads too short. Stock pin was a bit short, so I opted to tap threads down the icon pin to where needed, and will cut off top of after install tomorrow. Almost went with the allen head bolt, but not sure how strong they are.

If I were to do this again, I'd get correct length pins from the dealer, or use allen head bolts. Guy at Icon said they would be fine. With the overload removed, a 2 1/2" bolt with threads down to the 2" mark, measured from the bolt head.

Has anyone ever left the overload in ? I didn’t, but curious about the ride if anyone has experience .

Since adding a topper line have sagged a little . Wondered if I could add overload back in for a touch of height.

Or if I should be looking at new leaf pack

I've ran this setup with and without the overload. It will certainly help with the topper. Expect to gain about 1/2" of height. Ride is slightly stiffer which was my reason for putting it back in. I prefer it that way. With our without my topper on.

Really doesn't matter, but if you think there might be a chance you ever remove the overload I'd leave the Icon clamp. The parking brake cable can be secured to that thru bolt on the Icon.

Personally, I'd cut the overload spring Bracket off and drill and tap a hole in the Icon bracket.

That being said, I have the Icon 3 leaf progressive aal and my centering pin was full thread with a spacer holding it all together.

Fun project. Although I'm enjoying NOT doing it even more.

    Good luck.

I can't as I didn't reinstall the ol leaf. As for the job itself; I did this with the springs still installed.

You need 2 sets of Jack stands; 1 for the truck, 1 for the axle. I jacked from the diff as high as I could go and set stands under the frame. Lower it and make sure you have full droop and then some.
Jack the diff up a bit and support it on the other set of stands.
From there, I disconnected the shocks on the axle, loosened the u bolts then took one side off. Use the jack to lower that side off the spring.

From there, 2 c clamps to hold the leaves together then remove the pin.

yes, grind the rivet head off pound the retainer off the spring the grind rest of rivet shank smooth with spring. I'd also remove the overload retainer.
