Hey when I air down to 13-15 psi they do feel smoother I’m not gonna lie. I just don’t know if they will be a lot better with the C rated BFG tires.. I’m going to have to wait till next week to let you guys know.. really hoping that it makes a huge difference.

I am running stiff ass E rated 285/75 17 Toyo MT's on mine. Actually had a friend or two actually, change from Kings to Icons after riding in my truck.

lol, the bypasses do make a difference but that's more in terms of overall wheel control. The coilovers alone with the 700# springs still rode great. So may wanna take a look at swapping to 700's and drop some of the preload since the new springs are an inch longer

I actually dropped the preload and the driver side is 1 1/2 while pass is 1 1/4... I just got some C rated BFG KO2s and this is my last hope. If this doesn’t work then I give up on this suspension.

any reason you went with 2.0 instead of 2.5 in the rear? what's your total load in the rear?

I’m interested to see how tires change your opinion of your shocks. A “C” rated tire will definitely ride smoother than E, so I hope it fixes your issue.

I’m not trying to be harsh here, but saying “don’t flame me” for not knowing how the weight/load rating of your tires would compromise your ride comfort makes me believe you flamed icon coilovers a bit prematurely by naming the thread title “icon coilovers suck”

A lot of Fox & king users have E rated tires, some icon guys run E also which is why I figured it’s thw suspension. I get the tires this week so If it makes a difference I’ll definitely update my post.

I have learned that people have different definitions of what “smooth” is.

True. I really do hope it fixes it. Mine are D rated and it’s stiff. I’m happy with the ride, but it is stiff. Got heavy duty dakars too.

    UPDATE 6/15/18
Well I just switched over to some C range KO2’s and it hardly made a difference. Still feels bumpy/stiff as the whole cab shakes. Overall It’s an ok ride I’ve seen and felt worse. Maybe planning on doing CDC later on

When did you install your Icons? Sounds like we have similar setups.

Give it some more time/miles. Mine were stiff as hell in the beginning. I dropped my tire pressure to 30lbs. on the street and 18lbs. offroad with E rated ST Maxx. Now the ride is tight, but not jarring. I think the new COs and leafs need a chance to settle in.

I have non resis and a light truck they are pretty stiff. Not as stiff as initial install, they also have under 10,000 miles on them, and have never been off road. My tacoma handels very well through the turns for being on MTs and a Tacoma. I will most likely go with resis of a different variant as soon as I feel like spending the money. Along with new upper and lower controll arms.

I remember when I first got my Mid travel king coils and man they felt like butter compared to some of the rigs that had icons on theirs. In fact, there are some OG members from my area that have eventually swapped out their icons for kings after a few years. Personal preference for road manners are different for everyone, but if you havnt had the chance to ride in someone's rig who has progressive coils like (Fox, King, Sway Away), I would encourage you to see the difference yourself. Many are known to over-preload their icons with 2-3 inches of threads, yours are likely fine and SAFE in the event of a top hat failure that excessive preload normally creates on Icons which I believe (but don't quote me) that Icon doesn't want people to use more than 2-1/3 thread showing.

I have E rated 315s on my ride and they def make things a little rougher compared to C rated tires and mine are set at 34 psi to wear evenly. I would assume at 30 psi you should be feeling good, especially on C rated tires. As some have recommended, have you tried wheeling your rig much? My kings really broke in after getting some love from the trail as the road doesn't do the best job at articulating them properly in the short term.

As some have suggested, swapping out your coil springs with some king ones might also help as well. My buddy @misdirection1982 had icons before he went LT and they had the king coil springs on them (cant remember what spring rate) and they rode pretty well at speed as he likes to haul ass on trail. But at the 10-15 mph range they didn't seem to be as forgiving as a progressive coil shock like kings, fox, etc. would be.

Worst case, you could always invest in a different set of coils as Icons tend to sell pretty good on here as many love them for their on-road handling? I say that as mine rides like a caddy on and off the trail.

Had them since October of last year so about 10k miles. I run 32psi on my tires. I already took them to icon for a revalve and I tried going to a C range tire and it made 0 difference. I am going to switch over to fox and give them a try. I just hate how every bump is felt and the cab feels like it’s falling apart

Trust me I’ve beat on them hard on the trails. They should be past any “break in” period by now. I have literally tried EVERYTHING to make icon work for me but they just aren’t for me I will be switching to fox next week. I am running E rated 315 also and I switched to 315 C rated and honestly didn’t make a difference at all. Anything under 40mph for icon it feels unbearable anything above that feels great so I’m not bashing on them they make a great product which is why I really wanted to keep them, but I just want something softer

Forgive me if this has been covered, but are you running any armor or a bumper up front? Kings with a 14” 600lb spring would definitely soften your ride vs the icons.

Yes, aluminum pelfreybilt front & a winch with synthetic line. About 100-120 pounds. But I had this issue way before the armor and I tried adding this armor to put some weight on the truck but it hardly made a difference

Damn nice setup. You might be able to throw a 14” King spring on your icons and see what’s up with that. A softer spring rate will help. I went with king springs on mine because they’re cheaper than icon springs.
