This "revision" is basically an easy way to get around the REAL problem which is a design flaw/fitment issue that most consumers wouldn't expect to encounter during a simple shock swap. I don't know anybody who reads instructions to install shocks(especially fine print).

It's kinda shitty to get stuck in the middle of this "revision" bs where Icon will warranty those who got screwed by the faulty design and those who got screwed by the faulty design AND the technicality that it may or may not have been mentioned in the instructions.

Nobody(ok not many)are against having to grind(yes grind, not sand)a bit of metal to prevent the shocks from making contact and leaking. What if the installer doesn't grind off enough? Voided warranty? o_O Is there a specific amount that needs to be grinded off to maintain warranty? How do you prove how much was grinded off? :annoyed:

Let's say I buy a badass new Tacoma(before they came out with the 3gen)and I'm cruising along when all of the sudden the engine starts pissing oil all over the place and my brand new engine seizes. I take it in to get it warrantied and they tell me there was a note in the glovebox that says I need to tighten the oil drain plug before driving or my warranty is void. I tell them that no other vehicle I've purchased required this procedure in order to maintain warranty and they tell me there may or may not have been a clearly written note in the glovebox that says the oil drain plug needs to be tightened and there is nothing they can do to help me.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Ever since I bought my Tacoma I've been dreaming of an Icon stage 3 or 4 kit. No way in hell I'm buying anything Icon after this BS: not for my truck, not for my motorcycles, not for my atv...They've clearly reached that "Too big to fail" mentality stage that unfortunately many quickly growing companies get to these days. Fortunately, there are better choices in the marketplace. @Icon_Madison

Actually he hasn't proven that his instructions didn't say notch, and if he had, Icon has already said they would warranty them. So, he needs to provide proof of sale proving his were pre-revision. That really doesn't seem all that difficult. Otherwise, said installer, his buddy, or whoever it was didn't read the directions and f***ed his shocks up. Even at that it's a pretty easy fix. Take it to any motorcycl shop and they can inspect, refill, and recharge.

Meanwhile thee was just a group buy with some 80 guys for the kings, all of which have a giant hard on for there big blue pogo sticks, so they come to this thread and flame away because whatever they bought has to be the best. To be pretty frank, if you try to order a set of Icons there is a 1 month national back order so I am guessing Icon is doing just fine.

    In this thread:
OP doesn't read instructions, and his shit breaks because of it.

ICON says, "Hey, idiot, read the instructions."

OP doesn't like that response, and because he has "been on the forums for two years" decides this is ICON's fault.

Nothing to see here, boys. Just another 18 pages of Tacomaworld for you.

Well OP if you do have a receipt to some degree, it might be worth trying to find it. Alternatively, I would be trying to get the shop who installed the shocks in on this. Regardless, this seems like a pretty limited warranty.

    ^^^ THIS.

It is only considered "improperly installed" if they were installed prior to Icon realizing the part required grinding to "properly" install or your warranty gets voided. That's crap anyway you look at it.

What if Toyota decided to not warranty half of the frames that rusted in half because they included some words in the user manual that said you need to coat the frame yearly to maintain warranty? SHIT WOULD HAVE HIT THE FAN. :crapstorm:

Mine were from pre-notched times, and I don't see how they could even make contact, unless you really turn them to the point where the hose would rub the side. Even if it moved a little, the fitting would tuck under the mount, as it has plenty of clearance. Maybe they beefed up the mount for the 15's or Icon ships with a different fitting now?

The product has not changed. An included direction sheet HAS changed.

One is covered under warranty and the other is not.

    THAT is the real issue.

    Your shocks aren't properly installed.

Or are they? o_O Which instructions did you receive? :bananadead: I hope you saved them because that's the only way to save your warranty.

Installed in 2013, so way before notching. Was curious how they can even touch the fitting, unless they changed something.

The interesting part of this thread is that I didnt realize so many people pay installers to install shocks. I am in the wrong damn business. Damn, one bolt, one nut, two self tappers and two hose clamps, and dudes are getting paid for it. Here I am getting greasy all day and probably make half of what these installers do. FML.

I bet it is a different story in the rust states though...

It's not the hose that rubbed through. Look at the original picture he posted. The reservoir is most likely mounted too far away pulling the shock/fitting in towards the frame. When the suspension cycles it's causing the fitting to hit the mount and loosen it. Some extra slack when mounting the reservoir to keep it away from the mount is all that's needed. It's not that complicated.

Says shocks were installed end of October, started leaking Novemberish and hasn't touched, adjusted, emailed or tried to fix the problem until now.

You can see where the oil is leaking out of the fitting and "washing" the shock body as it runs down.................

Its a bad idea to wait on fixing leaking shocks, if you've got a RR your dividing piston may start to slam into the end of the reservoir if it loses too much oil.
