Meh, even worse. Why wait so long? If it was caught early enough it wouldn't have been a problem. Tighten it up, make sure it doesn't hit again and be done with it.

close enough date to revision where the retailer could have been sitting on older stock. We're talking a month or two.

So where do I stand on this situation? I purchased the cb2036s, shock body is still a 2.0 resi. My instructions do not mention anything about notching. Nor do i have any pretty pictures.

I remember doing a ton of research and because of the power and influence of the Tacoma World membership and the positive feedback I saw, I really felt great about buying Icons. Funny about the timing of this thread, I just noticed my Icon resi's were leaking a bit at the fitting that was loose. Fixed the fitting and I hope it's ok. I purchased mine in 2015, hope they will cover it if there is a problem. I gotta say, if I was Icon I'd stay on Tacoma Worlds good side and get this resolved. Lot of new members here make their decisions just like I did, based on threads like this one.

Same exact way I feel. Did my research on here and at the time there was nothing but good stuff to say about them. Went out and checked my fitting and it's leaking. Easy fix but...how long has it been leaking?

...and will it start leaking again? Not the kinda shit I want to worry about running across the desert.

Mechanic installs a set of icons on a Tacoma March 2016, doesn't trim mount. Installed correctly. Warranty still good.

Same mechanic installs the same set of icons on a Tacoma April 2016, doesn't trim mount. Installed incorrectly. Warranty voided for not reading the fine print.

Just seems like shady practice from Icon. Especially since this is an obvious problem. Where's their thread warning the masses on TW to trim their mounts to avoid issue? Seems like instead of warning people properly, they now can just void warranty for other defects bc of this fine print.

Even if the OPs shocks fall under the warranty time frame, the fact that Icon pushed the fix of a poor design to the consumer instead of fixing it on their side says enough. I find it funny that people recommend Icon bc they "built their products around the Tacoma" instead of just slightly changing preexisting products to fit. Yet they seem to be the only brand continually having mount issues.

There's also a reason the King GB had 80+ and the Icon one is struggling to make the quota. I can guarantee it's not the ugly blue pushing those sales. Word spreads, and will continue to spread. In the meantime 80+ people get to enjoy installing their "blue pogo sticks" while not having to modify their truck due to a poor design on an OEM replacement part.

Let's look at this from Icons perspective for a second. They spent a bunch of time and money designing these shocks, but happened to overlook one small detail. It's easy for that to happen. We're all human. You had no idea of the problem, until some people email you stating "Hey, there's this issue where the shock mount is rubbing on my hose fitting." You think, "Well shit, how did we overlook this? What's the easiest, most inexpensive solution?"

For those stating they should completely redesign their shocks, that's pretty unrealistic since the solution is so simple. It just makes no sense.

Now if this were a much bigger issue, say, the fitting kept coming loose and Icon said "Hey, just duct tape that shit." then obviously that's not kosher, but shaving off some metal? That's nothing. You can get an angle grinder from harbor freight for $14, use it once, and throw it in the garbage if you want to, and still be out the gate cheaper than King/Fox.

I can see the point of the fix being cheap, but it's the fact that they passed the fix to the consumer instead of actually fixing it. That's not the correct way to handle an issue with a product as a manufacturer.

I know people have chimed in with a comparable situation. Here's mine.
Let's say you buy a TV and you install it on the stand it came with and notice it has a slight forward lean bc the mounting spot on the back of the tv was poorly designed causing the stand to mount at a slight forward angle. It works great, so you leave it as is. A week later the TV fell forward and busted. You call up Sony and they ask for pictures. They void the warranty bc in the fine print it says you have to notch the entertainment center where the stand sits to offset the forward angle. Anybody with a knife can notch the TV stand and it's in the instructions, so you're SOL. They pushed the fix for their faulty design onto the consumer instead of taking a day to redesign the back of the tv where the stand mounts up. That's shitty business.

Furthermore, I think the OP might have a leg to stand on since Icon's own website states:
    • 100% Bolt-on system - no drilling, cutting, or welding necessary for install
    So which is it Icon?
Read the very bottom where it says "Key Features". That's straight from Icon's website for the Stage 4 kit, which the OP has.

    Well, BAMMM!!!

Hey, @Icon_Madison so what's it going to be? You going to honor the warranty or would you prefer to have all us TW ICON owners ship back our kits and then have you go up against 100 small claims battles for false advertising?

    Get right or get bent!

Or you're an automotive manufacturer and realize a new process is causing an extremely small divot only visible at the right angle and light. So you immediately fix the process and call for an inspection of all parts completed through that process so you don't get 1 person that comes back complaining about it. Customer first.

As an aside, my Icons installed several years ago haven't had this issue. Wonder what they changed.

not sure why Icon would help this dude out after this shit show? he clearly won't EVER be happy with Icon, so screw him.
Good ole internet and TW, you can guarantee most of the negative comments are from people who have never even owned anything Icon. Just a bunch of sheeple buying what is 'Bro" and cool in TW. They all have their pros and cons, and I would consider them all to be "good", even cheap billies. but if you are a dick and cannot properly install, it's your own damn fault. I you are too stupid and had to pay someone else to install, probably should've left it stock.
