Anyone with experience doing "mods" would know, that "oem replacement, no drilling or cutting" is quite often NOT true.
If the installer would have checked their work and cycled the suspension, they would have seen an interference problem before the leak and addressed it THEN.
OP NEVER has proven he didn't have the revised instructions.................because he probably DID, but the installer never looked at them? We'll never know the truth. race car parts have race car problems. don't like it, stay stock!

To be fair, their current instructions which indicate to do some minor grinding are just fine as far as I'm concerned.

One issue is their advertising copy on their website is well out of date. And as you discovered inconsistent across kits even those which contain the same parts that need the grinding.

Normally no reason to crawl up a vendor's ass for stuff like that. Things change, shit happens along the way and as vendor you deal with it as best you can. Some customers have issues during the process and you should do your best to serve them within reason.

And that's the issue here. OP has an issue shortly after Icon modifies their instructions. Instead of just giving the benefit of the doubt to the customer as any sensible business that wants to maintain its reputation would do they go Slick Willie on the poor guy with "that depends on what your definition of is is" BS. Just a dumb move on their part. Costs them what like $100 tops to tighten the thing and recharge it? And the customer has to go through a bunch of hassle getting the shock off and serviced to even get that benefit? Not like they are opening the flood-gates of runaway warranty costs by just doing the right thing and recharging the damn shock for the customers having this issue in say the year after they rev'd the instructions.

And what about installers? Icon recommends you use a professional installer. Do they honestly think an installer that does a few of these a week is going to look for a revision change on the instructions on each box they open even if they sent the new instructions? Did they warn their retailers about this? Again, give the benefit of the doubt to the customer and the installer during a transition period. Assume it will take a number of months for word to get out to the installers to do the grinding.

They are being classically penny-wise and pound-foolish here.

You don't need to cut/grind/trim the mount if whoever is doing the install takes the time to mount the reservoir in the correct position.

    Read it all four times.

Most likely the reason for the instruction change is because most people aren't competent enough to work on vehicles. Sad truth.

What's easier? Try to explain suspension geometry, mechanics and why precise mounting is critical or having the customer just grind a minute amount of material so it's a non-issue?

I could really care less what brand it is. When someone starts bashing a company without trying to come to a solution, FIRST, you are a douche. especially when it is most likely an improper install. who gives a shit about whether it was in the instructions or not. should have noticed it was hitting the bucket when doing final checks of install and cycling suspension.

I just hope you guys who are ok with incorrect instructions or false advertising forever have an issue whenever you try to do anything you possibly haven't done before.

A vendor being out of date on their own product description/instruction whatever the hell you wanna call it is a load of crap, get your stuff together or don't claim to be one of the top suspension systems.

Ehh? Not sure what's going on. I posted this before but I'll post it again, here is Icon's warranty on Tacoma 2.0 Shocks

    upload_2017-3-30_8-18-41.jpg

It specifically states that the shocks aren't race car parts. :D

I'm not hating on Icon either, just pointing out facts. I had all Icon not too long ago on my truck and my only complaint was it was a little stiff.

you know there is more options then just hand sanding right? ever heard of a flap wheel? I use them all the time, and to remove that material it would be about 30sec with the flap disk.

They're just upset that in the instructions it says to "sand" the mount instead of "grind"

I'm sure it was a reference to the minimization of the "modification" to the shock bucket. "Sand" sounds less scary to some people than "grind". But seriously, are we building pinewood derby cars?

1st annual TW pinewood derby race? Anyone?

nope never heard of other options, I live under a rock. Using the word "sand" implies that sandpaper could be used, instead of having to own a grinder. Again, they only used the word sand to cover their asses in the "no cutting" on their website.

I would imagine that sandpaper COULD be used. It just might take awhile ;)

again, I just see that as lousy by the company. if that's there way of covering their asses then fine, but when there are (better) options out there (kings) that don't require "sanding" I'm not going the Icon route. shady shit imo.

It just all comes down to personal preference really. Last time I checked (which wasn't too recent) icon is a bit cheaper than fox/king. I'd happily pay less money for performance suspension if the cost it to do some slight mods to my truck.
