So were all looking at the OP's picture with it obviously over tightened.

I'm curious if everyone still thinks ICON is still at fault and should warranty it.

I think ICON needs to fix the "notching required" crap still lol. I can't say on the nut or not, if it had been tightened properly would the hose would have sat correctly with no notching? If yes, then no warranty. If no, warranty.

did icon claim it was because of overtightening or the lack of notching the shock mount

I take flush as the top of the nut and stem is smooth. I tightened it up that way and hasn't moved for 15000mi. I check it periodically by running my finger over it and making sure its still flush. As far as I was taught, nylock nuts don't NEED(it wont hurt anything except in weird cases like this) to be threaded past the end of the nylon part as long as the nylon part is equal to or longer than the chamfer. If I recall the stem is flat cut at the end, i could be wrong on that though, its been over a year since I put the shocks in.

So, you just come on here like every other Icon hater and make comments without actually reading the beginning? he said it was denied because it wasn't notched. that's why there is so much about this "notching". clearly mr 50% didn't see that either?

you really are a dumbass. it doesn't say it was denied because it wasn't notched. it says denied because installed incorrectly. the OP mentions he didn't notch but doesn't say that's what Icon said. Icon could have been implying it was because of the over tightening

I've got the 56503R-EXT as well - which at least on the Wheeler's site they specifically say are considered a custom part by Icon and thus have no warranty at all for what it is worth.

Anyway, I think actually the EXT are less likely to have a rubbing problem because they have a longer collapsed length (15.9" vs 14.2") and I'm fairly certain the rubbing happens when fully compressed if you think about the suspension geometry. Reality is though I suspect that difference in length is minor and probably both are at risk of rubbing.

I just looked at mine about a month ago and no leaks but did not examine carefully for any signs of rubbing. Will next time I'm by the truck and will probably go ahead and do the "sanding" just for safety's sake. I know mine are oriented to produce the largest spacing possible from the mount - just not sure if that is enough on its own! Top nuts on mine are a few threads down, could back those off (or actually, new lock nuts).

Anyway, at least this 26 pages and growing SS of a thread lets me know to go look at mine and do some "sanding".

In the grand scheme of things this is not a big deal. I plan to cut a notch and recheck fitment, simple. Might need a recharge since I noticed some leakage and mine is pre-instruction change and I wouldn't anticipate any problems from Icon. I'm rooting for Icon, they have been good about providing info in the past. It was nice of an experienced vendor to stick up for their product and that helps; I for one would like to hear from Icon as well.

Didn't they have a rep on the forum before? Pretty sure it was @icon rep or @iconrep.. neither seem to be actual users, though. :notsure:

One of the above is correct. Sometime after 2013 the account was nuked.

I too have this shock and as previously posted instructions does not mention anything about notching. I'll repost the instructions I recieved.

Do I notch or not notch As Precaution?

I also saw Wheelers notification of "no warranty", but the Waranty section at the bottom states 1 year mfg defect warranty. So which is it?

I would notch it, I installed mine prior to the instruction change and have a tiny tiny bit of rubbing over the course of 15000mi. I'll probably do mine as a precaution even though I don't intend on having them for much longer.

I'd notch it. I'm going to notch mine sometime in the next few 1000 miles when I get a chance.

Of course you can always call Icon and ask for clarification.

I suspect they don't reprint instructions for custom parts without the warranty statement. So I'd assume no warranty, but again call and ask. Mine are over a year anyway so moot for me. And nothing wrong with them at this point.
