Polite suggestion: man the damn phones.

Took five calls (during the middle of your business hours, I might add) over two days for someone to actually pick up.

No way brother, you only exposed their customer service side in not doing things right from a communication perspective. It seems to me that you are part of the unfortunate few that got lost in translation between when things were one way, and are now another. It pisses me the fuck off that this is how it is going down. Ffs, you had Toyota install the shocks, not some drunk uncle or yourself. It's unfortunate that you also committed as far as a stage 4 kit. I can very confidently say that I could of just as well been in your shoes had I bought my shocks at that time. In fact, I think I bought my kings a week later than you bought your icons. I hope something good comes out of this op.

Don't know what it might mean for you, but atleast now there is a considerable paper trail of this discrepancy with icon and maybe others might be able to fix their situation before it's too late. I would think for you to be the guinea pig here with their policies with this new addendum, that they might throw you a pass...

@CaptainReverso - I'll throw this out there. If for whatever reason you don't get it resolved with ICON, I got a couple gallons of their oil at my shop and I'd be more then happy to fill them up, tighten all the fittings, recharge and install at no charge.

    I'm in Murrieta.

While I agree with your sentiment, if these are "general instructions" and are missing critical information, then either don't supply instructions at all, or write in big, bold letters at the top of the first page: INSTRUCTIONS ARE MISSING CRITICAL STEPS.

Not once in my life have I ever seen instructions (for anything!) that implied missing steps.

Anyone with two hands is able to understand, turn a wrench, follow ICON's original instructions, and make sure shit's not rubbing. There's no problem during install - it is, as ICON says, "bolt on." I'll even bet you that 9/10 professional mechanics will not foresee this problem when they install these shocks (following original instructions). The problem arises later, under specific conditions that ICON failed to identify in their original R&D. Hey, shit happens - that much is understandable, but ICON needs to stand behind their mistakes as well as they stand behind their online reputation.

Their 2.5 RR shocks have the external reservoir's fitting considerably lower. No clearance issues. I'm assuming the design of the 2.0 shock was either done earlier, or simply cut corners.

Case and point here. Regardless of how this goes, it would be nice if icon could attempt to make some form of notice to the remaining folks in the OPs time frame so that they might be able to confirm or modify their install before it's too late and void their warranty due to a loose fitting due to not being notched. Atleast make something positive out of this situation for somebody.

Seriously, thanks for your post. I now know to double check my install and potentially grind away part of the bucket. I'm pretty sure my install ended up fine as is but not something I want to chance.

And definitely reach back out to Icon - sounds like they are willing to work on this. Not everyone can get customer service right the first time for every customer. Give 'em a second chance now.

When I was shopping for suspension, I was down to ICON (mostly because of their amazing reputation here on TW, which, I was surprised to find, is not the case on many other forums) and King. Bought ICON purely because they went on sale for 20% off at AutoAnything. Now that I'm a year older and somewhat wiser, I have a better idea of what to look for in suspension components, and will learn from my mistake.

The earlier models didn't appear to have this issue when looking at old instructions for the Tacoma (attached). Their hose attachment was much lower.

I read the OP post, I thought he posted pictures of the instructions?

I didn't mention kings did I? But since you brought it up, I don't think they do. I can't remember ever seeing them have instructions either. I could be wrong.

You are correct that is an assumption, but it's based off years of experience in situations like this, plus just browsing through this thread, he wasn't the only one that had this issue. Everyone else seemed to get it handled with out incident?

I have to admit, I haven't read all of their ligature as of late, but what I have seen, I don't remember ever reading that. BUT if it does say that on the instructions then maybe the wording needs changed. Chances are they will.

Why don't Icon just send the O.P a new set of shocks for free with clear instructions,I am sure 1 set of shocks is not going too bankrupt Icon.

there is only 3 of us and we get phone calls non stop all day, my suggestion is to call in the morning or afternoon. A lot of people call us on their breaks and it's kind of hard to answer the phone while we are already on it, my apologies. I

No worries. Let me know what ends up happening.

I know I gave you a hard time throughout, but I just call it as I see it. In the end, I just want to see everyone taken care of and outdoors enjoying their stuff.

    So you're understaffed.

Fits with the "we lost your paperwork because we have many departments" line I was told half a year back.

I can understand the problem, but it sure as hell is not the customers' problem.

And thanks for the sarcasm. If you're here to do damage control (which it sure as hell looks like you are), I'd suggest going back to the drawing board.

    haha.

    Good one.

That'll happen if Expedition Overland has issues with their shocks. The best case for us mere mortals is to sit without the truck for two weeks and suck our thumbs.

If you'd like you can send me your phone number and I can give you a call today!
