I put thousands of hard offroad miles a year on my truck and the ICON stuff has never let me down. Prior to the Tacoma, I had a Tundra that was also all ICON and same story.

Almost everyone in our group runs ICON, never an issue.

Take it as you will, but once you start changing from stock, failure and defect probability is just the way it is. Stock replacement? Sure, it replaces the stock stuff and uses factory mounts but a lot of times things have to be changed or modified to make it work correctly.

I've seen similar stories from all the brands. No one is perfect, manufacturer and installer alike.

Yep I had this issue, but on only one of my shocks. The fitting hit the bucket and came lose, I reinstalled at a better angle. Haven't had any issue to date. Note: I did not notch nor does the instructions say to.

Don't worry. There are lots of people who don't research or read before buying. You'll be fine. Besides, you started the last big Icon thread. :D

OP, have you at least taken the effort to see if the fitting is loose? Multiple people here have all had this "issue".

Lol. Being on the forums for 2 years suddenly gives you credibility?

You bought these shocks. I'm certain somewhere on the instructions it says to have them installed by a professional, if you cared to look. I also bet that if you bothered to look at your truck or do a nut/bolt check after driving your truck for awhile, you would have noticed it leaking and been able to solve the issue or prevent it from getting worse. I haven't been on this forum for 2 years like you have so my credibility is a bit lacking, but I've been on other forums for much longer than your little sojourn. One thing I always do is a quick little visual on my truck before I drive it. 50% is looking at how fucking sick it is, and 50% seeing if shit is leaking or broken. I thought everyone did that, but maybe since I actually take pride in my vehicles I notice things more than you do, and take responsibility when things break.

Never said I had credibility. I said i have been wheeling with people who have had icons and never notched buckets but now all the sudden they say my warranty is void because I didn't. Thanks for your input troll

What a dick. I'm sure You have no idea what the instructions say or how he cares for his truck.

I don't know if I'd say one top hat is better than the other. I have seen pictures of broken Icon top hats yes. In my opinion that is the result of buying an extend travel coil over and just tossing it in. In that I mean you haven't read the specifications on the coil over enough notice that the collapsed length is longer than stock and will bottom out prior to hitting your bump stops. Then said user goes out, bottoms the coil over out and those stresses need to go somewhere. The solution was a longer bump stop, now you have a broken top hat. I'd rather a broken top hat than bent shock buckets or mangle control arm mounts.

I really don't want to be involved in the bickering. However, I feel obligated to share my experience with Icon shocks, for the record. I drive my truck everyday. Every day I get a smile on my face because of how well my truck rides with Icon suspension. I have had no problems for 5 months now. When I do have a leak or need a rebuild, I will deal with it then and perhaps my opinion will change. My offroad driving is mainly restricted to the beach so they don't take a crazy beating but I still have put about 10000 miles on them so far. If anything, they're performing better than new! They also still look new. I have no regrets buying Icon shocks.

Bro I broke the "new top hat design". Madison at icon tech support said, "we don't offer a revised top hat design"...when I asked a month or so ago about the top hat they were sending me.

OP is not debating if ICON is a good product. It's their customer service. King, FOX and ICON all make solid products. He is telling his story so if somebody is thinking about which to buy will read his experience and it will help with their decision. Not covering something under warrant because he didn't follow directions that were not on his version is shitty when it would not really cost ICON much and he would be happy.
