I mean I guess, but that would be accompanied by other symptoms like poor tire wear or the classic rumble strip noise after going over a bump. Have you sent 50k shock oil out for analysis to verify its degradation?

Mine is also my DD and probably put 14k a year on it, including the off-roading trips. An afternoon to rebuild and maintain my truck to keep it going is not a huge deal for me.

Old shock oil is pretty distinct if you’ve never seen it. Smells bad and has a black color.

 

My stock shocks did better than these off road because they didn't fail all the time. Yes, I do off roading, but nothing super crazy like boulder crawling. I thought that what these were for...

Yep...thats what I was hoping for...at least after paying over $2,000 I'd suspect it would hold up at least as long as my stock shocks...NOPE. Even the first time when they were under warranty I had to get another shock, put it on, then mail the other back to them. What a pain!

The only thing Icon I would run is their Delta Joint UCA and RXT leafs. For some reason, their shocks just seem to have more issues than other brands. In fairness, they sell a boatload of shocks (probably the biggest manufacturer other than Fox).

 

40,000? I think its more than that. Cleaning starts at 3-5,000 miles and a full service after only 15,000. Unless you don't take your taco off road...but if you don't do that...why buy a upgraded suspension?

To be fair, not everyone has the facility to rebuild high end shocks. For fellas that have a garage and space, it not as big a deal as for those that live in an apartment.

I think anyone who buys Kings or other high-end rebuildable reservoir shocks, that doesn’t actually need a high performance off-road shock, is kinda screwing themselves with the rebuild issue. They should just buy 5100’s, paint them blue, and put King stickers on them if they want the look.

For my uses, I run disposable Billstiens that have a lifetime warranty. 5100s are just fine for the FSRs, rooty wood tracks, rocky mining roads into the mountains, and whatnot around me. If I was high speed running in baja, I’d want something else.
