Looking into getting an icon stage 2 kit. Comes with new rear struts and a add a leaf. Do I need extended brake lines for the rear? If so any links to parts

Icons are trash. I know a lot of people that run them and had to rebuild their shocks within the year, including friends that are mall crawlers. They're no good. Go with Kings or Fox.

I’ve heard quite the opposite from the majority of people I know. I’ll keep an eye out on kings but the price is hard to swallow. Still curious tho if with AAL’s you need extended brake lines

Kings and Icon cost the same, or within $50 or so

As for the rear brake line, you'll still be on your stock leaf pack

Really you should just replace it cause it's cheap and easy if you'll wheel at all, and not because you're getting an AAL

Ok I’ll look at changing the break line then! Curious on where your finding your prices for kings I can get an Icon stage 3 kit that has remote resi’s and comes with everything for $2300. While a king kit cost much closer to 3500 without remote resi

    What are you talking about

With reservoir between 1900 to 2300 depending where you buy from

For what it's worth, I've been on the same non-resi Icons for 8 years/150k miles and they've held up fine. The front adjustment collars won't move due to rust but whatever. They could use a rebuild but I'm lazy

Same here. Had the 2.5 std travel Icons for 10 years, 100k or so. Just took them off. They were definitely sagging a bit, but overall I have zero complaints.

I did replace them with Bilstein 6112s though, as I feel I did pay extra for the name back then. Didn't know better. I'm very happy with my 6112s and 5160s. all the performance I need.

I was mentioning the stage 3 kit from icon. Which comes with front and rear struts plus an aal. Found it on a site for 2200. What do you use on the back of your truck? I’d love to have kings up front but I have no clue what to pair in the back

You said stage 2, now stage 3

My response was simply regarding the coilovers themselves, when you mentioned your huge price discrepancy

    1. King rears are 2.5, not 2.0 like the Icon which alone would drive up the cost

    2. It's not worth putting a higher end shock in the stock location as you're limited in terms of travel using the stock mounts

But to answer you, before I got rid of my truck I ran Fox 2.5 up front and Fox 2.0 in the rear

Had I kept that truck, I would've swapped to ADS all around and done a custom shock relocation

Icon makes full complete kits, from control arms to coilovers, leaf springs, trailing arms and more. Extended brake lines for the rear are recommended if youre lifting the back end higher than 2". We recommend braided stainless performance brake lines to help with the added length and to strengthen the line itself to prevent bubbling/expansion of the line under heavy breaking. Icon are great components for an "all in 1" kit, King and Fox as mentioned above make performance coilovers/shocks that can be higher quality than Icons "out of the box" components for a stage 1 or 2 kit, however you have to find the rest of the components. Icons shocks/coilovers work with their leaf springs and their geometry so the valving works with the spring rates of the surrounding components. King, Fox, ADS, Elka.... all do not make the supporting components so you are matching (control arms, trailing arms, leaf springs...etc) with what works well with one another. Personally I like Icons as a complete "kit", although depending on your environment, rebuild times may vary. As with all coilovers/shocks, the more abusive or dirty they are and are run in, the quicker your rebuild intervals will be. I have customers who have gotten well over 50k miles on their Icon setups, and I have customers who need their Kings rebuilt every 15k miles. So "go with Kings" isnt necessarily the best option for someone who dailys more if youre rebuilding annually.

Give us a shout if you need more assistance or help, but we can get you setup with Icons, Kings, ADS or whatever setup/components you choose!

If you're lifting and offroad, I would extend the brake line.

Icon stage 3 has arrived. Going to install this weekend. Can’t seem to find too much info on this but anyone who has install the icon add a leaf, do you leave the overload leaf in or out?

If you are changing the shock length you'll want longer brake lines. What determines rear travel is the shock length. If the shocks have a longer droop length than then the factory you'll stretch the brake line. Because the shock is mounted at an angle it isn't a 1 to 1 ratio of shock length to brake line length.

I do not. So I’ll probably start with it off and keep the leaf around.

in that case the previous owner may have done it. He put a 5100 lift on it and I’ve definitely gotten the wheel off the ground without any issues. Any way to check? Just when I put the shocks on look at the line?

You can literally go look at your brake line right now.

Nothing to do with unbolting/removing anything.
