I think there is great misconceptions on shocks and usage.
The shocks we buy for our trucks not being (long travel) are good for road and sand wash, fire road type runs with weight add like rtt's and such. I think people go out thinking I just put 5k in suspension. "In going to go jump my shit and run thru whoops like a side by side) etc. And wounder why there shit I leaking in 7k miles. Is obvious.

    Just my 2cents.

You cant blame the tool unless harbor freight. Lol!
90% of the time it's the user that fucks up.

    Good luck people!

King isn't more expensive, they just dont have as many options as Fox. Fox sells a bunch of different size OEM shocks and configurations. King really only sells a 2.5 with reservoir for the front with or without clickers. A comparable featured Fox shock is basically the same price.

Icon is junk. I've seen more reports of icon issues than the other manufacturers combined. It's possible that's because they sell a lot but I doubt they sell as many as fox/king/ads/etc combined. All of the manufacturers have QC issues but icon is hands down the worst out of all of them.

Fox is actually cost more if you're comparing apples to apples. They do offer more options such as the Performance Series that is more budget friendly but if you're comparing the Factory Series they cost more.

I never had any of the above issues with my icons I just really didn't like the way they handled on road, super stiff and jarring, off road they were smooth as butter.

They are, but as far as I saw it's only like $100 unless I was looking at a different set up. At the end of the day, and as far as truck mods go, $100 ain't much.

Agreed. It’s not a significant amount but people will cry about $100 when building a truck. Even though it’s nothing in the scheme of things.

Naaaaa. Dude. Im good. Im never buying Icons. Dont mean nothing to me.

    Ive seen "some" icons leak.

Ive seen "some" springs crack on kings and fox.

Theres gonna be issues. But there alot of people that love all the big 3.

Just b/c there are known issues doesnt mean that every offering from a particular brand is trash.

Seems like an admission of a known issue lol. Idk though, I'm shock illiterate.

    Here we go again.

If the truck is driven 99% street (its a tundra so I assume this to be the case) the Icons will not offer a pleasant ride.
Eibach makes their springs but with a "custom design" specifically fewer coils per inch to allow a good extended length and a great coil bind length.
Up front I run an Icon 2.5" coilover with a custom valve stack as the original stack was not great for me, I don't run a swaybar.

The damper in Toytec shocks is a bilstein 5xxx series, but paired with an eibach of the shelf spring and will ride about the same as a 5100 by all accounts.

Fox packs the most tech into their shocks/$.
I actually run their dual rate adjuster reservoir on King shocks, and would love to add another set to my Front shocks to keep tweaking.

    King shocks win races (lol).
King has the best heat management options for the big-boy shocks you aren't buying.
In the rear of my truck I run a king smoothie shock with a fox dual rate adjuster purchased from Accutune.

Theres quite a few other brands to discuss with ADS as a very popular up and comer.
Progressive compression with an unusual rebound stack (digressive? I'm not sure) that has an internal top-out bump stop.

These two are not supported by anything other than word of mouth. Look up podium wins and you'll find the first one isn't in their favor percentage wise. Not saying the NEVER win, but they actually don't own the podium when looking at the numbers.

King also doesn't have the best heat management options. I can find "water at Walmart" (figuratively speaking of course) with better heat dissipation characteristics and they don't actually offer a heat management solution. Nice try though:thumbsup:

I see you are pretty anti-king shocks...
Certainly the statement "king shocks win races" is overly generalized and not true when considering total off-road podium numbers, you got me lmao.

However, they do infact offer the (currently) largest variety billet fin options for resevoirs and shock bodies as well as a water jacket to run a heat exchanger for shock oil.

No, not anti-any shock actually. They all have their pros/cons. I'm "anti-bad information being spread with little support." Happens way too often when specific topics are discussed.

I could dig into that finned resi concept but we'd be de-railing the purpose of the thread. Not aware of a water jacket to run a heat exchanger. Have any info I can do some research?

I think, correct me if I'm wrong but Luke Mcmillan just won the Mint 400 and he uses Fox shocks. Some cool footage of him just floating over terrain like a boss.

The finned shocks have been around for a while (~2012), but are now being offered as a standard upgrade option for their higher-end stuff, honestly not a lot of great info, but they have shared some: http://www.kingshocks.com/news/racing/cooler-by-design/

Since ~2017 Fox has also begun offering cooling fins on reservoirs, but I don't know if this is a standard upgrade option for them yet.

The water jacket has actually been discontinued (i was not aware but just googled it lol) it would seem shock oil technology advancements have apparently proved a much more efficient means of maintaining damping characteristic. So I guess I've spread more misinformation.
