I think this is what I'll do. Please post results after you take the caps off.

There is usually some internal clearance on the order of .0004" to .0010". (Typical human hair is about .0040" wide.) The internal radius of the bearing race isn't spherical, but more "cathedral"-shaped. Not sure about the design principles behind it, but all brands are made this way. As the bearing rotates with load, the ball shifts within that clearance, creating noise.

Ball joints are filled with grease, so there's a fluid film between all contact surfaces. The ball is often spring-loaded to take out the clearance.

stuff that makes it better for my use...
No noises, I will say I pulled one & then both off tonight & there was dirt and as jberry813 stated the moisture has no way of evaporating so the head of the bolt is just starting to show some corrosion... I have the tubular arms & they only fasten with a thin double sided foam tape so crap does get in there through the foam pores... I am wondering if it was sealed better if it would have the same results. Caps are off for now...

Hmmm, I'm gonna have to take your word for it. Makes sense though. Seems I didn't have to make the decision whether to put the caps on or not. I asked them to not to put them on but they did. It's all good though. They did a great job. Time to just enjoy. I guess when they start to get noisy then that's when the the two 10" subs in the back go to work.

Just an update. I have had my ucas capped for 8-9 months now and took the cap off for the first time on Monday. Before I ever put them on I put 2-3 coats of dri lube on them and let them dry, then I capped them. Anyway they look perfect. Just like the day I put the caps on (thank goodness) I wiped em down and threw several layers of the Tri Flow dri lube again and recapped em.
Here are pics of taking the cap off:

So they def work on keeping the dirt and grime out. I was worried I would have a bunch of rust in there like some thought or mentioned but I didn't even though I have driven on the beach many times and wheeled a decent amount over the past 8-9 months so I think they are great

Thanks for the update! I did end up putting them on. I didn't do anything to them before i did either. I guess it's been about 3 or 4 months. Probably gonna wait another 3 or 4 before i take them off. this gives me hope tho...

Icon 2.5 Extended Travel remote res coilovers, Icon uniball UCAs, stage 3 URD clutch and throwout bearing upgrade. Icon 2.0 Remote res rear shocks and Alcan +1 added stiffness 8 leaf spring set.
I have these ucas and caps and I have no noises and no rust. I check them every 3 months and clean and relube. Best purchase i have ever made. Of course you are bound to get some wear and rust if you dont take care of them. As long as you keep up with them you should have no issue.

Do you get more 3M tape from icon when you stick the caps back on?
